Insurance and track? or street racing and insurance?

I just got done talking with an car insurance guy, and I asked him if they would insure me for when I go to the track. He of course said no which means that if I were to hit anyone at the track or get hurt or my car gets hurt it would all be out of pocket! And I think school loans are a pain in the butt. But seriously this is the way I look at it. If I street race and reack or hit someone/sombody insurance will cover it. Even if I am charged with a recless op/ street racing. Were as if I go to the track in a controled environment sure there is an ambulance and my health insurace would cover my injuries, but I am still out for my car, possible other person health and all their medical/car expenseses. So honestly I do not how can you say the track is the best option looking at it from and insurace point of view. So my question to you is not weather or not you street race but is their any insurance that will cover me at the track? Cause the way I look at sure the track is safer and it has a lot less chance of the unknowns of street racing. Finally I am sure more people get hurt/die on the street but people still get hurt/die on the strip. Which leads to the fact is it the environment that causes acidents or the driver? Please this not intended as a street racing thread if it goes that way hopefully the moderator will take it of.

there is racing insurance and it is expensive. as in very expensive. like more expensive than it would be to fix your car. the event's inurance would cover the other person.
and i am pretty sure that if you crahsed your car street racing your claim would probably be denied.
there are a few sayings about racing:
1. how do you make a small fortune racing? start with a large fortune.
2. never race something you cant afford to wad up into a little ball of scrap metal.
3. it isnt a matter of if you crash but when you crash.
i know it sucks but that is the way it is.
an event sanctioned with NASA or SCCA or some other reputable group will have liability insurance that will cover people that get hurt at the event. from tripping in the pits and breaking their ankle to getting hit by a car.

At a sanctioned event you pretty much only have to worry about yourself and your car. Unless you do something grossly negligent.
If you need insurance to cover your car if you wreck it, race something else. Rude, but simply the truth.
As far as health/hospitalization. No idea, never thought about it. I'm sure your own health insurance would cover it.
Also, no idea about insurance policies on street-racing coverage. But I know what I would do if I ran an insurance company.

yeah, wrecking a car out on the track is something you have to expect will happen eventually
if you wreck and the police report mentions you were street racing i doubt insurance will pay up, they may even drop you wether it was your fault or not, just like they would if you had one to many wrecks on your record
i have a friend that got caught street racing, they pulled her liscence and impounded her truck and when insurance found out they dropped her

Yah that all makes sense but what I really need to do if call the po dunk track I go to and see what kind of insurance they have. About the insurance street racing is a week argument and I am sure it depends state to state and insurace company to insurance company. But there is always the fact of inocent till proven guilty. My cousin got charged with street racing and it litterly took 6-8month for the court to hand down the decsion. During the time would not your insurance have to pay for health bills and the cars until proven guilty. Or would they just hold payment till the out come of the case? Also this is my limited knowledge of insurance companies to my understanding the insurance company can drop you after the incident. Becuase the time of the incident the driver was coverd by the insurance thus the incident would be coverd. Also the thing about you will wreck I hope I have another car by then, cause honestly of all the people that come to import nights at the local track I would bet that the car they brought is their only ride my self included. For me the best argument to not street race is the possiblity of being cought the fine a serious hike in insurance rate when I pay 10-20$ and can race all night with out that fear and hope nothing happens to my car.

An insurance company would definitely withhold payment if you were charged with street racing until you were possibly found innocent. However, they could still probably try to deny your claim based on independent evaluation. I don't know what race insurance covers, but I know covering a crew of 2 guys to climb radio towers is hundreds of thousands a year. Regular medical wouldn't cover any injuries incurred due to the risk inherent in the profession (as well as liability) and I would be pretty sure standard medical would also not cover you on a racetrack. You would also need to show special training, I would guess, to reduce your liability versus some regular clueless guy that could be trying a track for his first time.
