Resistance to turning either right or left, transmission????

I've been noticing this for quite some time, when I start up the car and turned to get out of the driveway, it's almost as though the front wheels were scrubbing?

The problem is it's intermittent, took out to a parking lot today and sure enough with the steering wheel approaching lock it just didn't want to turn. Then when I tried again about an hour later everything was fine.

Years ago the tranny went and I replaced it from a wreck, again the same thing happen only when reversing. So I took the original tranny down to Mr. transmission for rebuild and everything was fine up until now.

Also I seem to remember years ago, when it was only operating in 2 Wheel Drive that my problem was a relay??????????????

Anyway, before I take it to the evil transmission people, any suggestions.

The Subaru is a 92 legacy, turbo with an automatic transmission. And soon to enter the ranks of the intercooled.

Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :( :( :( :( :( :( :(

Put in the FWD fuse and see if the problem goes away....if so....it's probably torque bind. I'd try changing the trans fluid first to see if that helps.

It's called torque bind.

Read. Do a fluid swap, but if it doesn't go away - I'd say you've got that right there.

The fluid swap worked, thanks guys

Yesterday I took the car over to Jiffy Lube and we swapped out the transmission oil. We replaced it with synthetic which is quite expensive, but it appears to work.

I was down a couple of days ago in Witby, near Toronto, taking Eva's Subaru to be serviced and had a chance to talk with Mark, he runs the garage, I guess I've known him since we bought the old Subaru which was a 92, I digresse, anyway he indicates that there's a valve at the back of the transmission that is somehow tied into the four-wheel drive and yes a fluid swap would be a very good idea.

So, Mark basically backed up your suggestions,THANKS :D :D :D :D
