Clutch won't release. Sometimes.

Well this problem has been going on for months now because I have been way too busy with other things to deal with it but since the semester is nearly over I will be able to tackle it soon.
My clutch doesn't disengage all the way without giving it a "priming pump" before I actually shift.
I took it to the dealership, and of course they didn't find anything wrong
. They bled the system, it didn't help.
I was told by a mechanic friend that perhaps my pressure plate was dead... so I picked up a used wrx unit and clutch disk, but really don't want to crack everything open just yet.
any thoughts?
