I was wondering if anybody knows what the size of the stock
turbo outlet to the downpipe is on our cars? In putting in a whole 3"
exhaust system (once I get a downpipe made), does the 3" pipe bolt on
to a smaller opening? Someone I was talking to at an exhaust place
said that he would have to widen the outlet somehow, to fit the
larger downpipe. Is this just BS, or does he actually know what he's
talking about? Thanks for the help!

I had my downpipe installed today. Went for 3" from turbo to exhaust. So now
I have 3" Turbo back exhaust system. I have to admit initially I couldnt
really notice much difference. But once the car was all warmed up I noticed
acceleration was a little on the more exciting side or things as with
throttle response and top end (not that I speed or anything).
Sound is slightly different from with in the cabing but barely noticeable
both at cruising and hard acceleration. Although the overall exhaust note
must be different because I had at least 3 people trying to race me home on
the motorway tonight?

I don't know about NZ, but here in the US we're required to have
cats. Did you have a hi-flow cat installed farther down the line or
is it just a straight shot from the turbo to the muffler?

I would imagine that the sound outside the car is a bit different,
hence the "challengers".

Mine cat likes to hang out on the trunk.

Yeah, people get kinda weary of a Legacy driving around with a cat duct
taped to it's trunk. So yeah, i'd have to say i get a lot of challenges.
Maybe that's your problem. Try mounting the cat somewhere else. The hood or
the roof maybe? It might improve aerodynamics.

No we are not required to run cats in New Zealand so no I dont a have a cat
installed, and they are really expensive to have extra. I suppose if they were
cheaper I wouldnt have an issue using a hi flow cat.....

Funny thing is I drove another evo last night with modified exhaust and
downpipe and it made heaps of noise and yet noooooo one wantedd race that?

I'm thinking about getting the Turboxs downpipe meant for the new wrx.
I know the bolt pattern will fit but I'm concerned about the oxygen
sensor (or whatever that is just after the turbo on our stock peice)
transferring to the Turboxs piece. This would be the 4" tapering to 3"
model. It's a monster

So what do ya'll think of this idea?

Yeah! I've seen these downpipes and would love to get hold of one but can't cos they don't bring them to the uk (yet - he he). The O2 sensors fit but the pipe will not fit onto a standard centre section.

Gary - Graham Goode do an EXCELLENT downpipe available with and without a
high flow cat that will suit your needs nicely.

Personally I am going with a Godspeed unit on my own Legacy
