Amusing Launch With A Ford GT 40

I had my vintage wood/canvas canoe on the roof rack, and everyone knows that old wagons with canoes or bikes on the roof are not fast.

This canoe is 18 feet long and has a lot of sheer so I secure it with some 6 feet of it hanging out the back. That's so it doesn't obscure the view ahead. Of couse I always have a red flag attached so I'm legal.

At a red light on a main thoroughfare I'm stopped in the left lane, there is an ordinary car next to me and then a black GT 40 pulls into the inside lane.

Because there were cars paked in that lane across the intersection the GT 40 had to launch on the green.

So did I and with a roar there I was beside him and the look on his face should have been photographed.

An old Legacy, with a huge canoe on it and a grinning driver :-D

Quite likely the Ford could out-accelerate at most any speed, but with the high-stall torque converter the old twgn is rather effective on the launch.

This was not a kill, but a good surprise.

They're a popular replica, like the Cobra. Still, would likely at least have a 5.0 and less weight than a Mustang.
