The p.o. put a wrx muffler on my car with some extensions for the tips. He used steel instead of stainless and while I was doing my driveline swap I noticed it was rusting through.
Im looking at an sti axleback on the cheap. Assuming I have a wrx midpipe (size???) would the sti manifold benefit me at all? I can get the manifold pretty cheaply as well. Worth it? Will the axleback bolt up to the wrx midpipe?
I have a 2.5" custom downpipe and a custom uppipe (not sure of size) going to my t3.

i would assume that the axel back would as the catbacks are the same with a different tip.
i dont think the manifold would be much of an improvement over the stock unit but, i could be wrong.

The axleback is a different size unless you are talking 06+ wrx exhaust.
The sti exhaust I installed gave a noticable improvement in sound over what I had before (only got to listen for about a min though).
For those who are going to do the swap, you have to lengthen the pipe, add a long hanger on the axlebacks straight section, and shorten the drivers side hanger on the muffler near the tip.
If you have any questions on the install, feel free to ask...

if you run the full manifold to the turbo youll be hurting yourself as the exhaust manifold is catted in the uppipe... i dont think that there is any improvment to be gained from replacing any exhaust piping preturbo on our cars with another stock subaru setup except of course the early ej20g's came with an almost equal length exhaust mani setup
the cat back from an sti might be a little less restrictive than the wrx setup but if you have someone that will do exhaust work for you... you could pick up a magnaflow muffler for about 100 and have it all done custom if your looking for some sound and flow improvement

Hehe, already did the install - thanks for the advice though....
I did all the work myself. The p.o. installed a wrx muffler... He used a reducer on the exhaust as he used the sti midpipe.
The wrx piping is noticably smaller than the new sti piping...
The sound is kind of muted, but definately more rumbly - its DEFINATELY an improvement...
I also skipped on the manifold - I figured it would be a waste....
