how does this sound?

I'm looking at wheels, and in my head this seems like it'll work, I'd just like some feedback from anyone with any real experience on wheel/tire fitment with these Legacies.
Car: 94 Legacy Wagon
Suspension: 02 wrx struts/wrx wagon whiteline springs
Wheel: Rota D2 17x7.5 48et
Tire: Kumho Ecsta AST 215/45hr17
Will these fit? will they fit well? will they sit flush with the fenders?
Im not afraid to roll the fenders at all if I have to.

Should fit. I ran a 225/45/17 Re070 on 17x7.5 SubZero's that were et48. I had to roll the fenders, but it looked great. Wheels sat nearly flush with the fenders (with camber kicking in the top). It looked very mean.

thanks man. that's exactly the info I was looking for.
Would it be ill-advised if I were to push the wheels out a tad, say, run a 45mm offset? They appear to be available in that offset as well

I wanna know if I'm straight on this --
The positive offset (ie +40mm) is how far away the back of the wheel face is from the brakes, right?
If I were to put on some wheels with a lower offset, anywhere from 38-43, would I be able to use them if I used wheel spacers to keep 'em further away from the hub? Would that be too hard on the wheel bearings?

You've got the concept sort of right, but your exact definition of offset is wrong.
Offset is the measure of distance from the centerline of the wheel to the wheel mounting surface. Here are some pictures that do a pretty good job of illustrating things
