confused about lsd

My car has the sticker on the rear diff. saying it is the viscous limited slip. With the rear wheels off the ground, the wheels spin in opposite directions when you spin one of them. I know with a clutch type limited slip that both tires will spin the same direction. It is my understanding that a viscous unit will need some slip before the fluid heats up and it does it's thing.

Is my lsd messed up or is that what it is supposed to do?

Nope- that sounds right. Mine does the same thing. It only works when there is that friction thing going on. So unlike a mechanical or clutchpack type, ours will be an open dif until it starts to slip big, then it will "activate"

Yeah, thats perfectly normal...

As a reference, the open rear I just swapped out would let me spin one wheel while the other one did absolutely nothing...

Mine would spin opposite until I spun one quickly. At that point, the other would spin the same direction.

Thanks guys. I appreciate all the info. It's a load off my mind that there isn't a problem there. Now on to other things like the tranny.
