Whats up? I bought a 98 Legacy 2.5GT about a month ago. Just joined
the group and hope I can get some tips on what mods I can do to this
car, where I can get some parts, and how much it may cost me. So any
information is helpful. Maybe some of you can let me know what you
have done to your legacys.

This group is intended for 90-94 US Legacies and 89-92 Legacy models
sold elsewhere, as they're very similar except for the engines.

Any comments would be appreciated but we'd prefer no subjects
specifically related to 95+ Legacies.

Welcome!

Just wanted to say hi and see what anyone has seen in regards to a
high milage Legacy turbo. Mine has 168K on it, got it 83k. Sometimes
its got power like it use to, more often it accelerates like the
brakes are being applied. Not sure if the turbo is going, or a sensor.

if it was a sensor you should pick it up in the diagnostic checks'

Hi Nick,

I too am a 93 Touring wagon owner. Great car. I have 103Kmiles on mine. How long have you owned it? What do you like best about it? And what kinds of problems have you had with it?

Hi,

Mine just turned 80K, The only problem has been the one I'm currently having.
When I'm at a stop light with the car in Drive, After Idling for 10-20
seconds, the rpm's drop to an indicated 400 and the engine begins to shake
like its going to stall.

Anyone else have this problem?, The dealer replaced the O2 sensor and the
Idle air control valve but no good (refunded the money for the parts because
problem was not solved and really does not want to spend more time on it, it
seems)

Runs great, with the usual poor mileage in city driving

Nick

Have you had any Check Engine lights?

When i got my TW with about 86k on it, last August, i had to replace
the coolant temp sensor and throttle position sensor soon after. The
list of mods since then is much longer, but the engine runs
reasonably smooth and idles well.

I'd be tempted to look at the throttle cable connection to the
throttle body and perhaps turn the idle speed screw up a bit. Mine
had a white paint mark on it and was under-turned by that mark.

Hi, I've been on the i-club for awhile awaiting the WRX. However,
the current state of the economy has me worried and wanting to save
money. Therefore, I've shifted my desires to a 93-94 Legacy Turbo
Sedan.

So far, I've found two that I'm interested in...one in Dallas and the
other in South Dakota. I was hoping to find someone in either of
these areas that might have some time to go take a look at these
cars. If anyone could help me out that would be greatly
appreciated. There is even a free meal involved if I venture out to
but the car.

Thanks
Mike

How about a fairly heavily modified yet still street legal 270+HP
screamer?

It's a '91, but it's for sale... ;)

Just picked up a '93 Legacy Turbo a little over a month ago. I'm just
looking for simple mods for now. I was reading in the archives, and
read that the MAF is very sensitive. Is it worth it to get a K&N
filter? Does any body have it with problems? Does any body have a
part number?

Thanks

>From what I've read here and there, I think the filter is probably
fine, I think it's intake systems that get tricky. Good luck.

Yeah it is. In my non-turbo a K&N is basically all i have done, and i just
got 32.1 mpg on my lst fill-up. Since you have a turbo, you'll notice more
of a power increase then i did.

good luck!

Greetings everyone. I am new to the list but not to Subaru's, I have been on both the I-Club and the Sti mailing list since their inceptions but because I have intentions of putting a Legacy 2.2 Turbo engine in my Impreza, neither the I-club or the other mailing list could answer my questions regarding the finer points of the old EJ22T so they pointed me here.

My basic plan is to buy a EJ22T that has a tanked and honed block, new piston rings and 8:1 compression turbo pistons, with micropolished crank, reconditioned rods, new bearings, new oil pump and so on.

My initial questions to you BC-BF engine pros are, is there any fact to the rumor that the 98RS DOHC heads can mate up to the Ej22T block? Also What does that altered compression ratio really give to this engine?

I have been told that I would be better off I turboed a 2.5RS motor or turboed an EJ22 or even buy and import an STi engine instead but I think that with the right time, effort, and money the EJ22T can be just as powerful and reliable if not more than the other i have listed, not to mention rarer.

I would appreciate any imput that of you can give.

Thanks,
Stu

What about an EJ20T? They are about the same price if not cheaper then the EJ22T... Also they have about 220hp to start.

Great! Now I won't be alone in the world I have a EJ22t engine in my
'95 LX coupe. I used the 1.8 wiring and have modified things a bit
have installed Turbo Legacy Station wagon running gear and a '99 GT
transmission. If I can be of any help just ask.

True however, the EJ22T I have my eyes on is under $1000. I have a set of 98 DOHC Cobb tuned heads that I never got around to use. If 98 DOHC heads do indeed match up then I'd love to see just how much performance i can get out of one of these engines but because the EJ20T is so abundant it is definatly an option but in comparison it seems...tamer.

Awesome. I probably will need some advice when it comes down to wiring and ECU swaps and all that stuff. I feel like a kid in a candy store.

Al, you never were alone! I co-drive a rally Impreza that has the whole
EJ22t gear. If you want a sweet picture of it let me know. :)
