I believe you can still get the master keys. I checked (although it was a while ago) and they were still available. They come with the Subaru logo on them and have the little light in them. If I remember, and if I have time, I'll look into it tomorrow at work.

Yup, you can still get the master keys with the light in them.

If you have your original keys, you can get the key code from it, and have the subaru dealer cut you a brand new key from that code.

Yep, master key with light is 57430AA130. $16.95.

could they key that doesn't say Datsun on it be one of the OEM lighted keys with the plastic part ripped off? it does have a code on it like with where the thin part of the key meets the part u hold when u turn it (# is 8573 if that helps... and it has "- x" on it underneath)

no.

I broke mine and it's different. When I went to get a new one they were out so I just got a regular key.

Nissan owns (or did) 3% of Subaru. I filed mine down, milled three holes in it, and polished it so it resembles an old (W.O.) Bentley key.

One of my sister's friends had a nissan pickup and her key worked in my car, so they'd borrow my car with it.

Also, the newer (02+) Keys are identical to the older ones except for the thickless of the key itself. If you grind the flat faces down slightly, it'll work.

I was thinking of getting a new key from Subaru, since mine is just the generic ignition key that looks like older nissan keys.

I already went through all the hassle of getting my key code, but have been too lazy to go get one cut. I may just get it cut off of my current one since it's in such good condition.

that key at the top WILL work you just need a GOOD key to copy, if you have a crappy key, you will need to make a key the correct size with the code, then copy that to use with that key.

hey bmx! how bright is that led?

I got my car from my Nana as a gift (yes i know sweet deal with only 99,000km on it last year) The keys were old and kinda bent. So one day i lost my keys when i was at her house... turns out she had a new set of keys for the car that she NEVER used
black plastic and all... would she let me keep them... NO... I found my keys the next day and she is still holding out one me.

I called up Carter Subaru in Seattle and inquired about getting keys. The guy at the parts desk said models before 1995 are spotty with getting keys cut from code. He looked up the last 8 of my VIN and said they could for me. I didn't write down the exact costs, but the metal key was ~$10, key w/rubber ~$12 and the light one (which he said didn't think they made anymore) was ~$16. Apparently, the key code is on the passenger side lock (viewable after removing the panel of course) on most cars.
