My car is a freak

During the dismantling of my November 91, 92 model year (post facelift) car, to get it ready for painting, I noticed something very odd.

Way back when I first got the car, I developed a leaky water pump. I tried to replace the pump with a new one from the dealership for a 92, and it turned out my car had the factory oil cooler, so I got the wrong waterpump. This seemed really weird to me, because only the 91s came with an oil cooler... and I looked into the service records for the car, and the engine at some point had seized and been replaced. I assumed it had been replaced with an engine out of a 91, which came with an oil cooler.

Ive been in the process of preping for my EJ20G swap, and I remember someone mentioned something about the 91s having a 3rd round plug on the manifold harness which contained grounds, that the 92-94s dont have, and I didnt think about it until a few days ago when I was pulling the wiring harness out, and the body side of my harness has that connector.

So I have a post-facelift car, built decently far into the production year, with a pre-facelift engine and wiring harness, from the factory!

This would explain some of the issues I had with my 4EAT/5MT swap a year ago that never really got resolved, and a number of other odd little quirks I came to find in the car.

I know Josh's legacy is also really strange (wasnt it built in a factory that wasnt supposed to exist yet or something?)

Anyone else have any factory oddity stories?

Why is mine strange? It was built at the FHI factory in 7/89. Wasn't that factory up and running at that time?

I would assume it would have been since they started releasing models to Japan and other parts of the world in 89....

Michael I think has one.....but there's nothing strange about that either......the indiana plant was up and running too.

What's strange is that Izuzus and now Toyotas have come out of the Indiana plant too.

I thought it was the Post-facelift cars that had the third connector. My '93 has 3 connectors. The third, round, connector is all grounds.

The 90 and I think some of the 91 MY's have the 3 connectors, but they're all square. The tlegs all had 3 connectors, but one was all grounds like you mentioned. All the rest of the n/a's had two square connectors.

Mine was built in Indiana, but it's a 91.

That's always bugged me a little. EVERYONE I can think of on this board has an FHI-built 90 Legacy. The SIA plant opened in 89 and started producing Legacies for the 90 model year, but I never see them.

Conversely, most of the 91 Legacies I see are SIA, and virtually ALL the 92-94 Legacies I see are SIA.

My color code on the VIN palte is 278, which doesn't exist. At the dealer, digging way back in the book, we found 078.

this is probably more common than what others have written but, the '95 i race is a "vin 6" which means it has a 90-94 ej22 sorta. It has factory similarities of both 94 and 95 cars. I.E. no egr valve, but does have a knock sensor and diamond coil and stuff like that.
