AC compressor cycles off

Hello,

I have a 1990 Legacy LS Wagon. When I bought the car someone had converted it to R-134a, but it was not blowing very cold. Had the system pulled to a vaccum, added new r134a and and oil charge, charged it up to 18lbs, And I got ice cold air.

Now in the next day or two, the compressor has been cycling off and on, sometimes rapidly, before the car has cooled. Sometimes it starts doing it as soon as I turn on the as. Is this normal for the AC to cycle this often, or do I have bigger problems?

Did you put 18 lbs of refrigerent in, or charged it up to 18 psi?

How many cans of refrigerent did you put in?

Our cars will turn the compressor off if the accelerator is pushed down all the way so as not to deprive the driver of the car's full power. Were you driving aggressively?
