i been searching the threads and i only get early models and svx..
and i have read that the newer impreza 00+ auto tranny are and arent compatible with the 93 turbo legacy. I dont want to conver tinto manual cause it is a daily driver, and beside i have my turbo RS to have fun in ..

SO Im asking it now.. will a 2000 Impreza 4EAT work on a 93 turbo legacy? and how?

thanx

They should mate up just fine, mechanically. I am not sure about wiring/ECU/TCU issues though. And you will need to change the rear end as well as I highly doubt that the impreza auto tranny is a 3.90 gearing.

That's all I have to offer on the subject. Others more knowledgable may be able to answer the wiring questions.

The SS tranny is beefier, but if you're staying stock and being nice, you'd probably be fine.

yes i know the rear end on the legacy is 3.9 and the fd on the auto trans is 4.44..

so no issue with the TC? everyhting should bolt right up?
the TCU.. can i short the signal that tell the tranny go into power mode on the legacy, since the NA impreza doesnt have any powermode.. what other wire should i consider shortin?

I'd say that there's no way the newer 4EAT is going to work. This has been talked about here and elsewhere and the consensus seems to be that the newer models are too different.

thats not good, what is so not different about the newer tranny. i have tried searching, and i got both answer about the newer WILL and WONT fit.. i dunno which post to follow..

the legacy tranny is going.... from stop and hit the gas.. it would go and it wont go into next gear at very high rpm.. and im thinking the reason it is doing that is i lost 2nd gear.. and then it would stay at 3rd and not go into 4th.. . i just recently change the trans fluid so its not the fluid problem

The electronics in the newer transmissions are much more complicated, so I don't imagine that it would be at all compatible with the older computer, pin or digitally.

It's maybe twice the work to swap in a 5MT and get rid of the auto, and it's usually cheaper too. You get better mileage, performance and reliability also.

Why would converting it to a manual make it any less a daily driver?

I have an excellent turbo '91-94 rebuilt automatic (x2) for sale in Portland Oregon 3.90:1
I also have a 4.44:1 auto that works with your tcu(it's JDM) turbo auto.
Any interest PM me.

why not manual?

hmm it is because the on way to work and on the way back from work there is always mild to heavy traffic ... i just want to be lazy on the way there and back..
