So,
What's I've got is a DOHC Ej20 from a 1990 Legacy. This however, is an NA engine with the highest domed pistons I have ever seen in a Subaru. It's also a closed deck block. Furthermore, the cam grind is different than the EJ20G, even though the heads look identical. Lastly, the manifold is this crazy thing with some sort of vacuum actuated flapper box that varies the airflow in the manifold runners, kind of like Audi's vario-ram system. I've done a bit of searching, but can't find much since I lost some old links I had to AUS spec stuff.
So, anyone know anything about this engine? What kind of power does it make? Cam grind specs? Etc. Etc. Anything you got would be helpful. I am trying to decide what to do with this thing...

Look/search for an SAE paper published by Subaru about 1989. It has info about this engine.
I've got it on my FTP server, So I can email it to you if you would like.

I thought I had seen somewhere that it was around 150. 7500 rpm redline? No Fing way. It's got the little stub rockers like all the other Legacy Ej20G's...

That sounds to me like a VZ Type R motor.

I've had this for a while but for some reason I can't find a link to it on my site. It was in the gallery, and here's a link to its album:

They made a japanese Legacy model called the VZ, and you could get the Type R version. It came with a 2.0L ej20G n/a. Higher compression, 9.7:1, for more power, 150ps. Its trim level was that of the RS/GT.

Nice.
It looks like a fun, odd engine.
Cram it into something lightweight and have some crazy n/a fun.

I may be getting a '95 LS wagon with blown HG this weekend. I am considering putting the 2.0l in there...

not much more info though. But yeah ,that definately sounds like an EJ20D, though I didn't know they came with closed deck blocks.

So what are your plans for the engine? Will you keep it n/a or will you juice it up a bit?

I think the point of this being a cool engine is the fact that it is a higher compression naturally aspirated engine.
Basically adding a turbo to this engine is pointless....
Matt, what ecu are you going to use for this thing?

How much more power can you squeeze out of it? I want some ideas as to what to do to my car

Here are the pics of mine. The car needs a clean though. I have changed a few small things on it such as the silver door handles and the silver window trim on the doors. It needs a bit of body work now.
