Ok,

so im doing a auto to 5speed swap in my 1991 ss and i have the tranny about to go in. In order to make it work i cant seem to find a manual drive line SO i have a friend who works for a local driveline shop dose anyone know how long the auto drive like is and can it be custom cut and ballanced to work for a manual tranny? If so dose anyone have the mesurements it would save me alot of time and trouable of someone has done this before with the measurements thanks.

All EJ subaru 5MT driveshafts are the same length. There has to be one at a junkyard around town

It can be from ANYTHING. Legacy, Impreza, Forester, Outback, WRX... they're all the same.

Cutting and rewelding is just begging for problems imo

WRONG!!!!

I tried to put a late 90's driveline front section on a 94 TW...and it definately didn't work...

Word on the street is the Impretzel is a different length too.

Thats really odd.

Ive been told by multiple sources there are only 2 different lengths of driveshafts

a short one used for 4EATS and 6MTs
a long one used for 5MTs

I mean...I ain't the factory service manual...but I know that the driveline section I got out of a late 90's Outback 5MT car was too long for the 94 Touring Wagon with a 4.11 JDM Turbo Gearbox

That is really really weird, especially since the tranny and diff can be swapped out of that car into the Legacy, and that the wheelbase is the same.

You said driveline section. Did you get the entire driveline, or just one of the sections and try to use it?

Front section...

But when I put the slipyoke in the transaxle, the carrier bearing was about an inch too far from the mounting holes

Hmm, my center bearing is going out and a new one is $300 (special tools required to take the end off too). Aarons auto wrecking (only subaru junk yard around here) will sell me a entire drive line for ~$150. Which length/type one should I get? Ok, sure suppose I should just to measure each section and call him up... but would be easier to say I need a drive line from X model subaru ;-).
