torque bind again?

Post by bridorf »

About 2 years ago I experienced the binding along with the Duty C code. Removed transfer case and replaced clutch pack, fluid line, and solenoid. I inspected the housing where the shaft runs and typically wears out and found no percepible wear. I reinstalled and flushed the fluid and still had the problem. Turns out the code would clear and return even without driving the car - so I sourced a matching used TCU and installed - problem went away and never returned.

About 3 weeks ago I replaced a leaking power steering rack and had the alignment done. I am not the primary drive of the car and that driver never seems to notice anything anyway, but about 1 week ago I drove the car and noted some binding when parking. This time there are no codes and the problem has happened a few times. I also noted that the speedo needle wiggles slightly at times. Both issues are intermittent and I am not too worried about it yet. Tires are even and brand new. Fluid was flushed 1.5 years ago.

My questions are:
Has anyone experienced similar TCU failures and could my used unit be failing too? Why no codes?

Any possible link between trans. issue and speedo issue (i.e. VSS 1)?

Anything to check specifically after doing the rack or alignment? or any specific weak points in wiring harness under dash (I was poking around under there in preparations of installing a keyless entry system, but haven't done anything yet)?

Thanks
