engine pull and installation :/

ok i've searched but i can't really find anything specific so i'm just gonna ask.

so i have a SS with a 5m/t and i'm trying to just pull out the engine.

i've undone all the wiring, unscrewed the 4 engine-to-transmission bolts, the turbo-to-downpipe bolts and some other little screw that was attaching the downpipe and engine and of course the 2 engine mounts.

my friends and i were trying to pul the engine and we can only get the engine and transmission to seperate by about an inch. it's not sliding off at all lol.

did i miss a bolt? am i doing something wrong?

You have to remove the clutch fork retainer

Theres a big allan key plug on the drivers side of the tranny

Its a 10mm hex plug. I am not correcting just adding a size to Splinters answer :D And to pull the retainer out you have to screw in a M6 bolt (6mm) You can use one of the bolts that hold the coil pack on.

lol i didn't think it would matter at all since i was trying to get the engine not the tranny.

so my friends and i had been trying to yank the engine out (before i knew about the pin) and we got about a 1 inch gap between the engine and tranny. i can't get that damn pin to come out at all. i'm assuming it would be easier to pull out if i could somehow push the two back together but it's really hard to lol.

shouldnt matter...

But it gets very varnished. It can get right stuck. Thread in a bolt and use a big prybar, and it should come out.

I'd advise against using an important bolt tho, as the one I used was not reusable after the ordeal :P

I got caught on the whole pin thing when I did my tranny swap. I'd definitely grease it back up when you put it back in so it's not stuck if you ever need to remove it again. It can be tough to pull if it hasn't been out like Splinter said.

ok i've got another stupid question.

i put on a new clutch and used the allignment tool. tried to put the engine in and it seemed like it wouldn't go on. so i took of the clutch and realligned it. it still won't go in.

any ideas what's wrong?

and yes i've jacked up the transmission and yes i also tried rotating the crankpulley a little bit. i also put some grease on the transmission sprocket thing.

Did you already install the throw out bearing into the flywheel?

The throw out bearing needs to be slid back on the trans snout with the clutch fork installed. Once you install the engine, the throw out bearing will snap into the pressure plate.

crap. well i was just going to use my old clutch and stuff so yeah. i guess the throwout bearing is already on the pressure plate....

any way to get it off?

p.s. sorry for all of my stupid questions. this is my first time ever doing this.

Yeah....just take a small screwdriver and unclip it from the back side of the pressure plate.

I hope your clutch doesn't go out, right after you get it runnig, then you'll feel like a fool for not replacing it when you had the chance. I always do mine, even if its in a ford exploder.
