knocking

hey so i FINALY managed to get my engine in and whatnot. BUT here's the kicker.
the car started up just fine. i added oil and coolant and ATF for my power steering. but when it started there was a loud knocking noise. i decided to let it run for awhile because i figured that the engine just must have been starved of oil and that's what was causing it. but i've let it idle for about ten minutes and i still hear the noise.
i'm also having a problem where i'm not getting full boost (when i was with my old longblock) and then the turbo smokes. oil leaking from somewhere on it i suppose.
anyone know what the problems are and if there's a solution for them?
EDIT: i also have a CEL and did a check. it threw a 12 and/or 22. i couldn't exactly tell haha. but 12 is the starter switch and 22 is the knock sensor.

the lifters make a HORRIBLE racket, I have had them make noise for 20 miles before it went away.

Don't know the full story, but it could be one of those,,,, rebuilds. Not with subaru but many other brands have witnessed so called top rebuilds bite the dust.

ok. i'm just sort of scared to drive the car. it just sounds bad.
anyone know why there's a CEL for the knock sensor?
or why smoke looks like it's coming out of my O2 sensor on my DP?

How long have you actually had it running?
Like I said, lifters sound HORRIBLE because they are starved for oil
When we pulled the motor out of the purple wagon to replace the seals, it was without oil for only a few hours, and it took 15-20 minutes of running before the lifter noise went away.

well i went on a 20 mile drive.
there's still a knocking noise and smoke.
anymore thoughts?
is it possible that when i put the timing belt on, it was a little off? like would that cause the noise?

It shouldn't knock or make noises. When I rebuilt my motor, I had a little bit of noise from the valves initially, but not too long.
As for what the problem is.....not really sure...

I had the valves making a racket for about fifteen minutes. It was so damn loud I shut the car off immediately until I figured it was the lifters. IIRC, I also got the knock code due to the noise setting it off. A reset fixed it.
Is it a rapid-fire sound or a slow knock?

And where is the smoke coming from?

found the problem.
1 gallon of synthetic oil and 1 quart of oil cleaner stuff = no more noisey lifters.
apparently the synthetic gets into places better than the petroleum oils and then the oil additive helped to clean sludge out so the oil could get the the lifters even better.
as for the smoke. there was oil spilled on the turbo and an exhaust leak where the turbo and DP match up. after burning off the spilled oil and a new gasket...i'm set.
thanks guys.
