Automatic Seatbelt issue

Please help if you can... Thanks in advance for any info.

Something is wrong with my seatbelt on my passenger side, it stays in the forward position near the front of car. I have used the allen key to wind it back to the back position and when I shut and then open the door it returns to the up/forward position. I replaced the motor and the track - still does the same thing.

I purchased the car with this issue and noticed that the previous owner had taped over the blinking seatbelt light on the console.

I've heard there is a Automatic seatbelt computer, what if I replace that?

Thanks!

Kellen

It sounds like whatever sensor/switch it uses to determine that the seatbelt is rolled back is stuck in the activated condition.

In other words, it already thinks it is back, so won't try to move it anymore. When it sees both switched on, it flashes the light as a malfunction indicator.

or the door switch is not making all the way (that was the fix on my wagon). I believe the switch is in the door latch assy. I swapped out the whole thing, and it's been working good every since.

Mine started giving a seatbelt warning intermittantly, then started not retracting, or would retract going down the road. Wife is glad I fixed it, she was getting nervous

When I was fixing my friend's car, he had a similar problem with the driver side automatic seatbelt.

Rather than go through all the troubleshooting, I just picked off an automatic seatbelt and automatic seatbelt computer from a car at a local pick-n-pull junkyard (fortunately a cheap junkyard).

That fixed the problem for the car I was working on.

Naturally I should have replaced the computer, check the seatbelt, then replaced the seatbelt, and checked again, but I was in disassemble/reassemble mode, and I skipped straight through all of the checking steps...my bad.

Where is the seatbelt computer? I've already replace the motor assemlby. Next i'll try the door latch. I think thats what it is, the drivers side works fine... Hope it works...

Thanks a lot everone...

Plus- I found the diagnostic plug setup and read the code - 31

"Ignition switch is ON with key warning switch left OFF"
