What is the little black device under the intake hose

This is on a 91 SS.....I am referring to the small black plastic device located right under where the intake attaches to the intake manifold. It has a small hose on the drivers side and a larger hose leading to the intake box.

The small line attachment melted off and is not repairable. What are my options...get one from junkyard, new one.

The small line to the BPV (By-pass Valve) is the vacuum reference from the #4 cylinder. Under vacuum the valve is open and pressure it closes. Once you close the throttle plate when shifting it will open the valve to relieve any pressure in the charge pipe back into the intake. If the nipple off the BPV is broken make a WTB post in the classifieds section for another one. I doubt your gonna find a turbo leggy in a junk yard but you could check.

The Audi 5000T uses the exact same design only it's metal instead of plastic. It has a much crisper recirc then the oem. If you can find one of those they're much better. That's what I had on my SS when I did the 16G and WRX TMIC and it was awesome.

I used a Audi/VW aluminum Ebay unit. Good quality and cheap, too (~$50, ithink). And it has a threaded top, so you can add washers to increase spring pressure or replace it if it leaks boost 8) .

edit: Only problem is, its shiny.

Hmmm, mine was black and it held up to 18 psi without issue.

I fabricated a set of flanges for the OE WRX BPV, seems to work FAR better then the plastic one did.

I just need to make a coffee mug with a 1.25" recirc. barb so i dont have the 1.25" to .75" reduction.
