Stupid Failure

Last month I went to a different Mr. Lube and the guys were so interested in the Turbo Wagon that I wasn't focusing on what they were doing.

A week later there was some noise up front and by the time I got to a transmission specialist the damage was done.

There was no oil in the front diff(nada), and the drain plug was in and the gasket was sound.

The idiots had drained two plugs, replaced them and only re- filled the engine sump.

Otherwise the "built" tranny is fine. Got a used one and will use the standard torque converter.

The high-stall converter provides outstanding launches, but I'm thinking about acting my age. Maybe maturity is at hand.

I can have the high-stall checked out, and if anyone wants a reliable way of doing endless launches it will be for sale.

Also, I'll have the extra tranny itself checked out, and it could be for sale as well.

I'll be keeping the front diff.

Did you at least make the shop pay for the used tranny you picked up?? I use to work for Jiffy Lube and things like that rarely ever happened because all fluid levels were checked before a car was allowed to leave the bay. If something bad like that did happen, the store paid for any repairs or replacement items...

The lube place is totally responsable for that. And you shouldn't have to lift a wrench on it yourself. They should be paying for a top of the line new or rebuilt trans, and installation. You should have pursued it. Even a $300 attorney bill would be worth it. Cause in the end they would pay that as well.

I totally agree with that.
