ej22t diagnosis PLEASE!

Short version of story- after not starting the car for a long time (this ej22t was in a wrecked parts car), and for the first time extensively running since the hood was removed, I started it yesterday before beginning to dismantle it.

Motor sounded "weird". I am not totally engine savvy, i.e. diagnosis based upon sounds. I cannot describe the noise so I videotaped it running.

Any ideas, diagnoses?

Thanks.

The car it came out of was a 1992 ej22t, aw4, 161k

You can kind of here it in different ways, but I think around 55 seconds there is a good example, as well as right towards the end.

kinda sounds like more of a knock than a tick. Did you check the oil? What happened to having to sell this?

Any suggestions on what to do...

Re: having to sell... was getting no serious bites, so I ended up selling my 95 Leggy. The SS has been sitting here languishing at my work, and Wednesday they told me the car had to go.

So I spent Friday pulling the harness, and got the engine pulled yesterday. I didn't want to see this go to the scrapper.

A local guy said he could help me install it afterall, but I am having to weigh all my options.

One of the big things is trying to figure out what is wrong with the engine, if it is beyond repair, too expensive, beyond my abilities, etc.

Once I figure that out, I will move down my list.

Ideally I would love to use it, but practically it still might be more prudent to sell it...

Unfortunatly, I can't clearly hear the noise you are making no effort to describe. If It's a ticking noise that runs at about half engine rpm, then you have a valvetrain problem. if its a knock at the same speed as engine rpm, then you most likely have a rod knock. You may have a broken piston. Have you CHECKED THE OIL? If you drain the oil, then run a magnet through it, is there metal in it? I'm am making efforts to help you, but you have not answered my main question.
