Broken Synchro?

This weekend I was at an autocross and lost the ability to get into first gear. From a stop it is impossible to get in and from a roll it is extremely difficult but possible. It is just as hard to get out of first as it is to get in. First works fine once you are in so I'm thinking it has to be a sychro. Any other possibilities that could be an easy fix? I'm guessing I need a new transmission.
