Ok this is for my build I already have listed in the engine section (2.2L /2.5 heads, Twin scroll turbo etc)

Someone needs to explain to me the methodology for picking intercooler sizing.

My goals are 300 whp, 350 at most. I am looking for more response and a strong lower/midrange rather than huge power numbers at redline.

I was mostly fine with my choice of intercooler, which yes is an ebay kit I bought from Matt M for a really good deal. What freaked me out was the fact that I saw the factory subaru rally cars had a smaller intercooler than this particular kit, while I was at Rally COlorado.

I dont know exactly what factor you need to know.

THe turbo is the VF37 so it is fairly close to a vf34 for flow at 450ish CFM.

Can I get away with a core that is only like 8" tall and maybe longer or something? Please help!

Remember that your turbo when factory, has no intercooler and a short intake tract, so that is why our cars have pretty good low end power.

The larger the intercooler, the more air space the turbo has to fill. Thus, you will have a little more lag before full boost.

With this line of thinking, a smaller core will fill up faster and thus produce power faster, but also heat up quicker reducing your overall peak numbers.

Most of the guys who run big turbos and big FMICs develop most of their power above 4250 rpms.

Since you are looking for good midrange power, you will have to compromise total top-end numbers for quicker response.

As for what size to run, I don't think anyone would be able to tell you, short of checking out what dyno numbers people have on different set-ups.

I would check the nabisco 2.0 forums and the bragging rights/power forums also to see what sizes people are using.

I agree with the bigger does not = better idea on I/C's.
In the real world that E-bay I/C works well.

I do not have a super quick or powerful car, but I have the same I/C bmxpunk has & did not have much-any more lag on either the ej22t/VF11 or EJ20G/TDO4 with this FMIC in place.

The EJ20G is a bit slower to spool than the ej22t, but I feel the displacement difference is what is causing this.

That said I'm @ 16psi before 3k on the EJ20G, I'd say about 26-2800rpm on a 4eat car without b-torquing on launch.
I'd expect even quicker spool on bmxpunk's big displacement, twin-scroll setup.

I've seen the time attack Subarus from Dynocomp, Crawford... & those have way bigger I/cs than what I'm using & bmxpunk has.
