Rad leak and Barrs

New to the forum but not new to Subarus. I am about to pick up a 93 Legacy Turbo though. It has a small leak in the rad and I wanted to know if this would cause it to overheat or just lose fluid?
I have to drive it home 100 miles on the highway. I hear the Barrs is crap and will gunk up in the cooling system and passageways. Any advice to get my new baby home?

Fill it up right before you leave for home, and only lock the radiator cap to the FIRST stop, not all the way. By doing this it won't build pressure and won't leak (as bad), but will divert any expansion to the overflow tank. Once home pull the radiator and either get it fixed at a shop, or replace it.

Of course, if you can find one complete with fans before you pick the car up, just swap the radiator out (took me about 30-45 minutes), and head for home....

Enjoy the Subie, nad stay away from the Barr's.
