Adding WRX hood scoop to my SS
Well, I sold off the stock scoop in favor of a WRX hood scoop & matching air difuser plate. In the picture I only have it sitting on the hood, but today I plan on fitting it up and cutting the hood to accept the new scoop.

Sweet, Scott should come over and watch you do it because he's planning on doing it soon too.

Done...! The hole is cut and now I need to add a rubber lip around the hood openning to seal it up. Other than that, it was more time intensive to cut the hole than anything. My jigsaw wasn't too happy with me for using it hard for so long. Oh well...
Pics will be up tonight.

Ok, so installing network wiring at the local car dealership until 1am didn't leave me time to upload pics last night like I wanted. So here they are now.

Did you cut out the area under where the scoop is? That's how I'd do it because you'll get more flow through the small OEM hole with the bigger scoop but it still won't flow over the entire WRX TMIC unless you do.

D'oh! My bad. I did cut out the pencil drawn area, I just forgot to take a snap shot of that. Looks like I have another picture to take...

Thanks Brent. Hope it gets more air flow over the TMIC than the stock would have.

You could, but it took me a while just using a jigsaw. I'd just borrow a jigsaw from buddy/family member or purchase one ($18-$120).

You could, but it is far from easily manuverable like a jigsaw would be. I'm a BIG fan of the sawzall, but only on larger projects.

Wal-Mart, Lowes, & Home-Depot all have inexpensive single speed jigsaws which would suit your needs just fine.

dont take this the wrong way but looking at that car i think the last thing you should be worried about is putting a bigger scoop on it. Have you thought about making it raod worthy with a bumper cover and corner lamp perhaps?

A couple of mine were seized as well. I had to slip a set of needle nosed pliers "above" the metal tabs to hold the washer while I worked the nut. In some cases I had to actually bend the tab downward a little bit to make it easier to get to the washer.SubaruNation wrote:were the nuts and screws holding the hood scoop down stuck for you? mine just keep spinning.
Edit: yep they're all seized and the nut and screw together spin..

so when you cut the hole, how did you deal with the 2nd layer of steel under the hood?
my screws don't fit all the way through the 1st and 2nd layer, they're too short.
did you just cut off the 2nd layer or how did you do it?

The pictures above are of my car, and no it's not road worthy yet. It's on a financial hold until the middle of January. At that point I will be pushing forward with getting it on the road to drive daily minus the hood scoop. Since I decided to stay with the FMIC which came with the car, I'll be picking up an N/A hood to replace the stock SS hood.magicmike wrote:dont take this the wrong way but looking at that car i think the last thing you should be worried about is putting a bigger scoop on it.
