i just got a 94 legacy turbo (automatic though ). I'm not familiar with these cars yet (first Subaru, let alone a ej22t), but i got a really good deal on it and its in very good condition so i couldn't pass it up.

I'm familiar with turbo cars, considering i just finished rebuilding my 1990 alltrac, but I'm looking to keep this car considerably stock with a few minor upgrades to make it run a little cleaner. I figured i would make my first post in here since i would like to fit an intercooler.

I guess i should just search for a thread on how to fit a WRX intercooler, but i figured i would get some opinions on what is best for the legacy's. i don't want to run a front mount, but there are so many different top mounts available off USDM and JDM subies, and aftermarket. im wondering what is best (flow, size, etc) or easiest to fit up?

Also, i know this is a little off topic in this forum, but are there any little upgrades that will help. it will be my daily driver this next winter, so im not wanting to do anything expensive or extensive, or anything thats ghetto rigging, but if theres a weak link that can fail that can be fixed, or a little mod that helps out, that would be nice. im planning on doing a full tune up with plugs, wires, new air filter, oil change, tranny fluid change, and running a boost gauge.

06-07 WRX intercoolers fit very well...


As far as little upgrades...exhaust will net you a pretty healthy powergain (some have seen as much as 20whp from doing 3" catless)

The stock turbo is good for about 12 psi...so once you get a TMIC on there, you should be good to go for a bit more boost

so, i probably need to just search, but does it just pop on there with the right silicone couplers and bypass valve adapter(s)?

On the other topic" How To: WRX Intercooler Install" some of the guys suggested forrester XT's TMIC.

I"m in the exact same boat ...car... as you. 94 ss auto and needed a TMIC but from that topic looks like a Forrester XT's TMIC requires least amount of effort to install. What do you think?

Btw where and how are you going to get your parts? cuz if all goes well for you then i'm gonna follow your foot steps

actually they said a 06-07 or a forester XT, since i belive they are the same.

i don't know where im going to get the parts, or what im going to have to fabricate. i'll make a write up if its not very straight forward.

oh, i just got a 06 wrx intercooler. lets see whats next...

Yes, they are the same

so, do i have to modify anything else to get it to fit in there, or is it only the problem of getting the turbo connected to the intercooler?

well, it looks like the best list is

plumbing
1 90 degree elbow coming off the turbo outlet
1 silicone y-pipe for WRX connecting to the intercooler ducts (needs to be cut)
1 metal pipe, mandrel-bent, 45 degrees
(I may hard pipe the whole thing....)

Relocate the igniter

relocate the coolant tank (wrx tank next to the abs actuator)

bypass valve outlet adapter

remove trim and chimney, tuck back wiring

When I put this exact piece on my car, I had to search for a few hours before I had all the info I needed. THEN I had to go out and actually take the car apart... without having ALL the answers and EXPERIMENT a little.
It's worse than bench racing, it's bench modding. There have been more than a few people unwilling to go out and just get their hands dirty with their OBD I cars. You could disassemble a quarter of the powertrain and it would still run.
My PM box is full of people wanting to know how to install this or that... and ALL of it is answered on the first or second pages of the respective forum. Maybe I'm just cranky, but I like to see some initative before I help someone. Peace.

ever heard of open source? this forum could learn a thing or 2 from it with all the "please search the forum" bs.

WE do search the forum, and put up with the outdated search function.

Well, how do you like your new intercooler?
I dont use the forum search, I use the google search at the top of the page, its much faster and you can use it as fast as you want.
You can generally find information by going to the fourm of the topic you want, and go back page by page.

searching within the bbs is the same thing but hey

i dont like it.......yet.
