hi all, im new to subarus and i recently got a 1990 legacy because my orginal car has some rod knock and it was to expensive for me to get it fixed so i got the subie.

anyways the reason for my post is because the legacy has this "wawawa" sound, as my friend says..."it sounds like a podracer from starwars", and it does have that sort of sound.

now the previous owner said that the rear bearing have been replaced a few years back with new bearings, im assuming 2-3 years, which if thats true that sound shouldnt be there. im pretty decent with cars since i dont have a huge trust with mechanics unless its something major, plus i get to know more about the car.

anyone have any ideas as to what causes that sound and is it possible to fix in your own driveway?

EDIT: what other years can i get parts from? i read somewhere that i can get parts from 90-94 year subie, is that true?

Could be a wheel bearing or it could be the tires. Can you feel the sound at all or is it purely a noise? I had an old van once that was making a wawawa noise and had a minor shake involved with it and it ended up being a bent drive shaft of all things.

Pretty much all the parts from 89-94 will be interchangeable. You may run into some differences between AWD and FWD.

A lot of later models parts are interchangeable too, Subies are Leggos.

cool, good to know my car is a lego... no wonder the better gas milage than my isuzu. lol

the sound is only heard, theres no vibration that i can feel. i guess ill just take it to a mechanic i know to see which bearing if it is a bearing thats bad... it could also be the tires, its on 3 balding and a winter tire
