I have seen many people have upgraded to wrx coolant when installing the wrx TMIC. does it help on the performance by a alot? Or am I fine with the stock coolant if I'm planning to boost it around 12-12.5 psi after I've finished installing the tmic?

Thanks in advance

I think you may have miss-read. They replace the stock coolant expansion tank with the wrx one, and relocate it. I think thats what you mean?. Not coolant as in anitfreeze.

it may be considered an upgrade because it's metal, as opposed to our fragile, brittle, old plastic one. You could relocate the plastic one, but beware broken nipples.

Just a note for those not in the know, subaru has gone back to plastic on 06 and later models, I orderd an 06 WRX tank when the one in my 92 cracked and I recieved a new plastic one. Oh well.

I broke the nipples off once. I just JB Welded some brass ones back on. No leaks.

I performed the same action as subytech. Ordered it assuming it would be metal, it is not, but is a different material than the old SS CFT's. Would say it is much more durable.

My '05 has a composite plastic one. I think they made the switch sometime during the '05 Impreza build window. From what I hear they are better.

I did the same thing, still working great after almost 2 years. Better than stock IMO

so today the nipple that connects the hose to the turbo on my coolant expansion tank broke off. which resulted in my car overheating. :?

is the new plastic tank better than the OEM plastic tank? or should i try to find a metal one?

Cant say i've seen one on an 05, but i've seen them on 05 LGTs so don't doubt it. From what you hear there better from what i hear there cheaper for fuji to produce. But like kleinkid says they do seem like a much more durrable piece.

thought of this for my old one but then noticed that the previous owners had already done this, then the tank in one last FU decided to produce a crack from one fitting to the next

Iif I were just replacing a stock unit, I'd go with the composite. It will absorb less heat from the engine bay and will not corrode. In the case of moving the stock Legacy one to make room for an intercooler, I think I would want a metal one to prevent the nipples from breaking off.
