well, not exactly any(big rigs, vans, etc) but if you were to put enough money into any car, even a ford taurus or geo metro, wouldnt it be pretty fast and stuff? it seems like there are forums for just about any car and spend a couple grand on suspension and many more grand on the engine and transmission and it seems like you'll have a fast car that handles great.

definitely. even vans and big rigs. it's just a lot easier with some cars than others.

Crap suspension geometry and a floppy chassis
no aftermarket support.


Yes, about anything is possible given enough money and time, but you're much better off starting with a good platform that has room to improve. A subaru, while not the best all out performance car out there, can be improved significantly for not too much money.

Or you can take something like a Lotus Elise, which is an excellent, quick, and great handling car right off the lot, and swap in a turbo honda motor to make it retarded fast.

ive seen a dump truck used by a local contractor run 13s, the thing about big rigs is that they are definitely not limited by the amount of space under the hood
most of your 12-13L motors are making 450-600hp and 1,500-2,000lbft, if you get rid of the emissions control you can add over 100hp easily, just like a tuner for Dodge and Ford trucks, the only thing that computer is really doing is setting back all of the low emissions settings that the EPA controls

There are really only two limiting factors to how much power a forced induction engine can make. One is the strength of the engine physically. The other is the knock tolerance of the fuel. By switching to diesel, you effectively remove number 2.

Shorthand...you can always follow a cycle for basically any engine. Add boost and tune until something breaks, fix it stronger and start over.

Agreed, any car can be made fast. Agreed, some make MUCH better starting points than others.

Actually, for it's day, a first generation Taurus had a great suspension and balance compared to it's competition. I've seen Thunderbird Superchargers adapted to 3.8 Tauruses using mostly factory parts. The SHO was very highly reguarded in it's day.

Still couldn't give me one though.

I would have kept it more of a sleeper, but I like the wheels and something about the side of it looks much cleaner. I don't think those weighed that much either. The Camry that replaced it weighed the same as a 1970 Road Runner.

he sold that and moved on to a similarly home built 99 miata.
It's an amazing piece of work.
All that was done by him in his garage. Even the dp. He's an odd ball...has a rock climbing wall in his basement. Think on that one for a second...low ceiling...yes, yes, it goes up the wall at an angle, across the ceiling and down. I'll find pics of it and his Miata.

He has also been know to build and employ vehiclular rocket launchers, hide a way license plates, tire changer/mountes and fender rollers. And a 6 speed shifter cart, a gas powered louge sled and potato guns that shoot large chunks of steel.

He does all this in his garage at 3am when he gets bored after work.
