91 Legacy Exhaust noise

Hi all,
My 1991 AWD Legacy 2.2 5mt n/a has a rattle and resonance at 2-3000 rpm only under load. The car has no noticable rattle at lower rpm, higher rpm, idle and none reving at idle.

I'm thinking either the catalytic converter or associated piping is making the noise as I have replaced the midpipe and muffler and also removed all the heat shields and the noise is still there.

Any ideas ?
:-)

If you've removed all your heat shields, then it's probably the catalytic converter honeycomb.

thanks for the reply josh,

I was thinking that as the catalytic converter honeycombe breaks down the noise would get louder, it would break up very quickly and the noise would be present all the time.

The noise i'm experiencing has been there for 8 months or so, has gradually slowly increased and only happens (or is obvious) at between 2k - 3 k rpm.

You could be right though i will try to track down a y pipe + cat , new after market ones sell here for around $ 450 us 600 auzzie dollars.

A friend of mine mentioned to me it could be clutch as I have a slight heavier clutch than standard oem one, could the clutch lever thrust bearing, arm, pressure plate or associated parts cause this tin plate sounding sound ??
