unorthodox pulley install problems

i have an automatic and i have already read the install guide but i cant seem to get enough leverage just by sticking a screwdriver in.
" If the car is an automatic, find the TPS on the inlet to the intake manifold. To the left of the TPS, down on the block, there's a small hole where you can see the flywheel. There should be a hole in the flywheel large enought to fit something like a screwdriver in. Do so, or if the hole isn't visible, turn the crankshaft with the breaker till one is visible. This will keep the crankshaft from turning."
i tried this and when i turned it, i saw 2 larger openings and one hold about the size of a screwdriver. the hole is wide enough but not deep enough and i have no idea how i would be able to keep the screwdriver in when turning with the breakerbar. any help, comments, advice, or questions would be appreciated. thanks!

i emailed josh this, but it might help someone reading the forums too:
i found two larger openings and the one small hole that was indicated in the guide but the hole is not very deep(im guessing about 8mm or less). i put the screwdriver in and when i turned, it just moved with the hole. the screw driver gets pushed against the housing of the AT and the handle hits the intake hose. should i try to use the breaker while it is resting as it is? or is there a better way to lock up the crankshaft? thanks

ok this may seem like a bad idea, but it isn't and it works...

get a long enough breaker bar so when you put the socket wrench on the pulley bolt the end rests on the battery area shelf. Make sure the wrench is secure and wont fall off the bolt. Get in the car and crank the motor for a split second, voila, the bolt is broken loose.

I have done this many times without issue on fords, mazdas and my subarus, most recently when I did my waterpump.

if you do that, make sure you put the breaker bar on the correct side of the engine. otherwise it will swing all the way around and destroy anything in it's path lol

thanks, i got the pulley installed but the belts the wrong size :( but its okay, cuz they have an alternate size listed here. did the K050330 work for everyone else? it didnt seem long enough for me even with the alternator all the way down. im gonna try the K050336

the car wont start now. :? does this have something to do with the timing? does the pulley need to be in a certain position? i put the pulley on correctly with the notch, but im not sure if the little mark that indicates TDC has to be in a certain position

i actually tried the cranking method and my car just didnt seem to start. and it didnt loosen it either. after a few tries of that, i went back to trying to jam the screwdriver into the bellhousing of the AT and the gates K050330 didnt work for me. i had to use the K050336. same belt, just 15 mm longer. thanks for all the help!

oh man, don't actually try to start the engine! you just have to bump the starter to pop the bolt loose.

i see. well sorry that didn't work for you, your pulley bolt must have really been torqued down.

Did you notice any performance improvement with the pulley?

Was it worth the trouble you had getting it on?

i actually dont remember noticing any performance improvement. believe thats because i had only driven the car for about a week before i installed the pulley.
