I mean WASTE it...

$45,000 reserve not met. Laffo.
Protip: Putting a $100 part on a car does not increase the value by $100.

isnt a sti engine only like 2k?
i mean thats alot but its reasonable for 300 ponies under your hood.

Yeah but then you need:
6mt
Custom Drive Shafts
Custom Axles
ECU
Wiring Harness
Labor to blend the Legacy Harness for interior electronics
Drive By Wire stuff
More Labor cuz I am stupid and cant do it myself...
Plus All the Suspension upgrades to make it handle that much power
By the end you have one fast car but it cost you like 30k for absolutely everything including labor and you still have a 14yr old car with way to much body flex...
ANd not to mention shitty 14yr old interior.
How much more would an STi interior be?
It adds up hella quick, 'specially cuz you cant use that engine with the 5mt for more that 5 seconds...

Is it common for the drivetrain to rob 150hp?? Sheesh

so... its not worth it to sti swap our cars then?

Probably not... I have sat down and run all the numbers with Rallitek before because I know they can do stuff like this...
However if you goal is the ulitimate sleeper and will never ever sell the car, it may be worth it. Nothings better than pulling up to a Mustang in a 20yr old car and waste the SOB...
In the end... value is all in the eye of the beholder.
But from an economical standpoint, go buy an STi...

i'm glad you told me this now, i was going to do it next summer.
whats a more compatible, good engine swap?
that in total will be less...

recipe for a STI quality engine in our Legacies:
Keep the 22t engine,
swap out some 20G heads,
put in a super 16G and 565's
add 3 inch exhaust and a FMIC.
Wire in a piggyback or standalone.
Seeing what Jake has on their dyno, that would put you in the 300whp range.

Man, you believe everything you read on NASIOC, don't you?!?
My Legacy was probably making almost 300hp last year, and my 4.11 5 speed is still in 100% working order...
It's all how you drive it...and a lot of those morons on NASIOC don't have a clue how to drive
The STi engine will bolt up to a 5mt, and work great, providing you don't drive like a 16 year old Civic owner
And as far as spending 30 grand to make an SS as fast as an STi...right...
Mine will most likely be much quicker than an STi (whenever the new motor gets built) for about 1/30th of that.
Remember, the BC chassis has a 300 pound weight advantage over the STi.

Far as I can tell, the shortblock is stock. No mention is made of it being built.
My point was that the EJ255 and EJ257 shortblocks are identically the same, so he accomplished absolutely zilch by swapping in an STi shortblock.

I was reading this 30k and body flex? with a big question mark over my head. A Legacy can be better then a STi as stated....... 30k xD haa

I've heard 5mt losses estimated at 35%. not sure what that means for a 6mt. I doubt many have stuck their EJ on an engine dyno but it sure would be interesting to see actual numbers.

First off Nick , I HATE NASIOC, I think they are a bunch of jerks over there...
Secondly I was reffering to
my OEM original from factory Legacy Turbo 5mt with 152K miles.
I HIGHLY doubt it could handle 300hp for very long... Just ask Dave at Rallitek. He goes through'em bi-weekly! Well almost lol
And Thirdly Some people here could make up that 300lbs...
My car, with me, is only like 150lbs lighter than my friend in an STi... Not including added weight with the 6mt and all the other stuff you would add like dynomat and Amplifiers ect.
So dont talk about an actual weight advantage...
And we were not talking about making an SS as fast as an STi for 30K
We were talking about a full Sti swap... If you didnt care about anything other than the drivetrain you could do it for 15-17k not doing the work yourself ( Rallitek).
But atleast for me I would want my exterior to be perfecto! I mean sexy! No darn dents and new paint... To take mine back to stock appearance without having a friend of a friend do it, it would cost 3-5k. Keep in mind my car is pretty darn good, ask Dale and redneckwolf, they have both seen it.
Then you are also gonna want somethin on the inside. I was thinkin somewhere along the lines of evades inerior on RSLC. Probably another 3K.
So right there you have $2X,000 into a 14yr old car BY DOING AN STi SWAP...
I understand that you can make an SS faster than an STi for less than 30K but that is not what we were talking about.
BTW I am 16 and treat this car very nicely! It gets more respect from me than my Dad ever gave it... I have only dumped the clutch once, and it was on accident on wet pavment covered in soggy leaves. The wheels spun a little bit... That was it, I never meant to do that and dont plan on doing it again. And I dont donwnshift to slow down anymore cuz I am too affraid of synchros going out.
So there!

Point taken, I just meant that that wasnt the only thing done to the car lol

Um yeah my car has a helluva lot more body flex than an STi. Remeber we have 17-14 yr old tech on our cars and a lot more miles than a new STi...
And I dont know what is so funny about 30K, read my above rebuddle to 555BCTurbo. It explains it.

oh snap,
so this is my basic question:
how much would it cost and would the sti engine work if we put it in our cars?
i dont care that much about exterior because its way sleeper anyway.
so engine, like 3k right?
suspension, like a grand
tranny?
what be the "just make it fit and work" cost?

Depends are you doing it yourself?
The best way to do it according to Rallitek and Frantic Four is to buy a totalled STi for about 5-7K
If you do it yourself add about 1-2K for Murphys Law...
If Rallitek does it than add 6K to that cost plus a little for Murphy.
Yourself= 6-8K
Rallitek ( Professional Subaru Performance Shop) = 6-8K + 6K Labor= 12-14K
As for the "Will it Work" question... Yes it will work but you need the ECU and wiring harness, that part is the bitch.
Does that answer the question?
Oh and Nick- You have a 4.11, I have a 3.90. That could change things a little bit, not to mention the 5mt was never meant to handle that much power to begin with... So then, as mechanical things wear, when it gets to be this old and you ask it to handle more than it was designed to in the first place, you are very likely to run into probs...

Why the hell do you want to spend the 5-7k on a fucking swap?
A motor is a motor.
My current motor is a POS, on the way to the dump, donated to me by Dale (livestrongs dad), with a a completely shot crank and rods, of which I only used the case, and yet I am easily over 300 whp....
Yes, I have lost two trannies on this motor.... But the first time was due to a loose tooth that didnt get cleaned out from a previus fiasco, and the 2nd (3rd) time was the FIRST time I ever actually broke a tranny in over 100 (maybe even 200) drag runs due to actual dumping the clutch, and this was 1000% related to the freak of nature pressure plate I use now.
If I want the power of a brand new STI modded, I sure as hell am not going to buy one to get the power. HOWEVER..... I would love love love love love love x50 to own an 05 Legacy GT Wagon!!!!!!!!!!! I don't care about the power, I want the luxory WITH the power!

I didnt say I would do it... I was just talking.

uh i do it because then my wagon would be ULTIMATE SLEEPER!!
ha ha
but yeah, i may just save for a sti, like the whole car because that seems more economical.
i would like to make the wagoneer faster, without destroying it..
