Awesomeness. What set up is that with which tranny? And how light? Flywheel replaced?

4 puck = tranny death

The flywheel doesn't look blue and cracked so I didn't get really hot. :P

And I think I'm with BCturbo on this one, unless your tranny is built to take it that harsh engaugment could be bad news. I'll take a burnt clutch over a broken gearbox any day.

They're right. Something will go, and this time we know it won't be your clutch. Be careful.

That 4-puck does have a sprung hub, which is not as harsh as an unsprung hub.

I'd still have to say be careful, or risk toothless gears!

I'm not a noob but could someone explain why a 4 puck would have more friction? It seems to me and my non educated engineering eye that it has less friction material.

The more pucks, the less pressure on each puck.

Look at it this way.

125lb hot chick stands on your chest with bare feet. yeah, that alot, but you can handle it.

Next she stands on your chest with high heels... I don't care how hot she is, those heels are going to puncture you!

Basically, the less surface area of the disc, the more pressure is applied to that area. And it grabs alot harder therefore.

Hmmmmm Hot Asian Six Puck on My Chest!

I changed the gear oil (transmission) about a week after the clutch installation (this past weekend) it was nasty gear oil, nasty nasty stuff - nothing came out that concerned me (there were some dirty shavings on the plug magnet that were thick with old oil, they appeared to have been there for a long time.

I've tracked it once (six runs), driven it on the street more than 250 miles so far, nothing's bothering me yet.

it does have a fairly harsh engagement but it depends completely on how you drive it. If you dump this clutch at 5 grand you're going to shear a gear.

Basically, it takes more feathering from a standstill, I can't start off anything under 2K rpms or it will chatter pretty nasty.

I may break it, I don't think so; I don't know; I'm running the EJ22T motor without the turbocharger (still) and an EJ22 N/A 4.111:1 transmission, which have had more "success" in withstanding a beating.

regardless, my old clutch was chattering too (due to it's age and wear) I make every effort not to chatter this one with careful feathering, but that doesn't mean I won't go in a week or so and spend $150 on the six-puck sprung that I originally intended to buy (got the part numbers mixed up when ordering)

I've still got an oil leak, think it's the pan this time but not 100% sure; I hope it is, I hate that damn rear main oil seal.

was pretty promising as to the strength of the 4.11:1 NA tranny.

swapped out the flywheel too...

are we placing bets on how long before it blows up? :P

No offense, but I've seen A LOT worse.

I've seen pressure plates cracked in several places, friction material completely stripped off the disc, etc.

Yeah, that stock clutch looks OK to me.

When I sheared gears 2nd went, 1st was fine in the homemade 4 speed gearbox.

Now this is a bit of heat stress. Original clutch with 195k and i had no first gear for a month:
