My dad did that to me. He came to my job while I was at work and snaked the car. I bet the OP was put in similar circumstances.
My parents are in the state of a messy divorce and my dad was being an asshat. He's still being an asshat on the matter.

Actually Grandpa bought the car... Then let Dad drive it and then they actually gave me the car, expected me to pay for maintenance and I also put a huge percent of my income into it and then Dad took it...
It is actually really really complicated, and it would take like 5 pages to explain...
