After 268k, what do you think?

I started tearing into the motor on one of my project today, a 91ss auto with 268k on the clock. Now, I know what I saw...but what I would like to know is WHAT DO YOU THINK I should see internally on a "seasoned" ej22t with this many miles? My plans are to keep this car on the road for a few more years as a winter beater so head gaskets, timing belt, water pump/thermo, etc are in order.

This car should have been another parts car posted on the list but to be honest, there have been a few to many lately and I just wanted to say that I tried to save one. The kid I bought it from put it into a tree on the passenger side trying to, as I quote, "rally" in the subie. He bought it two months prior from his neighbor, the original owner, who was there when I picked up the car. I swear the neighbor was crying as I pulled away with the car on the dolly. I think I owe it to him to get the car back on the road.

the kid should be clubbed and have his license taken from him till he's 21.

A seasoned motor, depends on how it was treated in the two months that the little shit had it. Could have been beat on in which case you'd see score marks on the cylinder walls if the oil wasn't taken care of properly.

On a motor that's taken care of from birth properly, at 150k I still had the cross hatching on the cylinder walls. They say 100k is barely broken in for a subaru.

Good luck.

Taking the heads off of my brother's '94 at 150k, it still had the factory crosshatching.

My 22t has 215k on it and still has hatch in the cylinders...

And I just tore down a 22t with 179k on it and it did too.

My 247k N/A that burned an exhaust valve still had the crosshatching, the cams looked brand new, and the bottom end bearings looked very good. If not for that valve, I'd have no reason to believe it would've been fine for at least another 100k.
