Ciper,
I know you were away from the scene for a while, so I don't know if you are familiar with the high compression frankenstein? This is essentially the same thing but with a brand new shortblock. The one thing that is new about this is the use of the ej257 bottom end.

It's something siouxbie and I have been batting around for months. The primary advantage of using the ej257 bottom end is that it keeps the compression below 11:1. It also costs almost exactly the same as a new ej251 and that's too high of compression.
And if you knew siouxbie like I do you would get it. I've never seen a better cared for first gen legacy. I've owned ones with 100k fewer miles that didn't even come close. And he's an NA junkie like myself. He tracks the car and burns off punk kids in wrx's and swapped gc's. And then he could take it straight to a car show and win an award in preservation class. It's an old skool thing. ;)

Damn, a grand fer a pair of heads?...I'm gonna go with re-mans. ported and polished from C.C.R. and use my Delta Cams. The $ I was quoted was $550 per pair after the core for the heads + labor on the port & polish.

They have bigger valves than the stock 2.2 head. i was talking to my friend who's helping out with testing the sohc 2.5 heads and he was telling me about the 2.2 heads that they put 2.5 valves in it so they flow WAY better than stock 2.2 sohc heads
