No heat - really strange - I've done everything....

I'll try to be brief.....my heat blower motor stopped working (could fell heat but wasn't coming out.

I change my motor no go, I ran a wire spliced from my stereo and connected it to the motor worked great but I found out that it drained my battery completely. (I was driving car started dying, lights dimmed ect.....disconnected and it ran fine)

I change that relay above the fuse box behind the instrument panel, nothing changed

http://www.global-auto-parts.com/100/20 ... 781471.jpg

It can't be the other relay (which I don't know what it looks like) because thats a ground one right.

Oh yeah I also took apart my HVAC control panel and it looked fine, I heard that the solder gets cracked but I couldn't tell what anyone was talking about.

PLEASE HELP - Justin

Justin, please tell us what model Legacy you have

I'm lost as to why the battery drained while driving.

This sounds like an unrelated problem that
deals with your alternater

It does sound as if the fuse for your blower
or it's relay is bad

thanks for checking in on me Skip.

I have a 91 SS

My battery died because I ran a wire from my stereo to my blower motor.

I checked the fuses and swapped new ones in and I also change the relay that I posted a picture of.

Maybe its that soldering on the HVAC controller that I need, I just don't know what to solder.

Thanks-Justin

my pleasure Justin

I still believe there may be more than one issue here.

All electrical items, headlights, stereo, engine systems
all draw power from the same source
i.e. the battery.
It' the alternaters job to keep the battery charged --
thus the alternator powers everything.
ergo Wiring the blower to the stereo should not kill the battery.

The relay for the blower is a cylinder looking relay like all factory relays.
Like the one you linked to.

Note: the other relay (you ask if it's a "ground")
may be the relay
for the blower as I know not of a relay for the ground.

I will have to get out my FSM to find the wire colors to this relay and it's location.

Hopefully someone else know this info and will chime in.

one of the best tech guys around says this in a
post on a similar problem

vrg3 says:
"I am guessing you mean the blower fan. The blower relay sometimes goes bad. It is high up behind the driver's side dashboard. It is a bare metal can with a clear/white connector. "

I've read through all the posts.

First the alternator problem....I just got a new high end aftermarket one that I tested upon installing and yesterday and it was pumping out 14.51 V.

I think doing a short to the blower motor created a constant drainage source/short because when I was driving two nights ago all my lights started to dim and the engine started to die. I immediatly pulled over turned off my headlights...no good...I then disconnected the powerline running to the blower motor and everything worked great instantly.

I change the blower motor relay (which was how it was named at Advanced auto) and I think the other relay next to the glovebox is a ground so I think its ok because when I ran a direct line to the blower it worked.

Both my Haynes and Chilton manuals do not show a wiring diagram but the only thing I can think is its my HVAC contol panel....don't ask me what I'm suppost to solder on it however?

Any comments/help would be appreciate - Justin

I found a thread here with some good pics

http://bbs.legacycentral.org/viewtopic. ... r&start=25

I'm going to solder the pins tonight and see where that gets me

Good luck, hope that solves your problem.

I still see no way for the blower
to draw so much current
that it would kill the battery.

Hi, I got your message. I read what you say your having problems with. The problem I had with my 91 legacy was a bit different. Mine didn't have power at the blower motor either. (On any speed) It turned out to be the blower relay. (Behind the steering column) Sorry I can't be more help.
