OBDI -> OBDII (with piggy back EMS)

I found a really nice 98 impreza I want to put my EJ22T into and wanted some opinions on the changing over from OBDI to OBDII...impossible? horrible? I assume the worst.
I was planning on using a Greddy eManage Ultimate.

I am in the same exact boat as you my man. I just picked up a '97 Impreza coupe that is going to be receiving my EJ22t. I was on NASIOC trying to get some information, but that site is a joke. Its all flames, guesses, and l33t woot pwned! speak... cant stand it.
Its going to be going down soon, so I'd like to get some solid info/suggestions from the folks here who are running stand-alone systems. I was thinking of going with a Megasquirt setup, but I'd like to know what others are using. Or if maybe a piggyback of some sort would be a better option.

I wouldnt try to swap over all the wiring. I think everything should just plug right in for the most part, just use all the stuff from the orignal car and then run a piggy back. the emanage ulti. should work out just fine. The biggest thing to watch out for is that all the sensors and reluctor rings are the same. good luck and have fun.

You'll have to do some tweaking with the engine harness, either for the impreza or the legacy, as the location to where they go to is different. That's the first thing.
Second is the auxilary sensors for the boost related items, pressure sensor, pressure exchange sensor, and wastegate solenoid.
I don't know how much tweeking you want to do, or where you want to start from. But if it were me, I'd try and find a JDM or overseas ECU that is OBD2 compliant and designed for turbo application.
You may have to do some tweaking with the injectors, maybe coils, and wastegate/boost sensors but that should at least give you an ECU that is meant for turbo application and the tuning required will not be as much.
However that may get you into issues when/if you have an inspection and the vehicle ID doesn't match your car.....
Either way has it's issues, you just have to decide what will be best for you.

Thanks - I know honda makes conversion harnesses - I haven't heard about any subaru ones.
I'm assuming that if I use a piggy back system it will take control of all the Engine control and stupid crap like air condition can use the stock ECU.
Like Legacy777 said though, its the CELs/passing emissions here in CT that scares me.
FYI mattyg - I was told to stay away from stand alones. Its gonna be pretty intense accounting for every sensor and acurately handing them.
I'm gonna call up Greddy and ask them about using a nonturbo ECU with the system.....they were helpful last time I was talking to them.
PEACE

Jut - Yeah, I was looking into all the new/different sensors I'd need with a standalone system, and it would put a whoopin on the bankroll. That eManage Ultimate looks like an attractive option for what we've got planned. I see on GReddy's site that they sell wiring harness kits for GC cars with EJ20 engines, but it appears they are assuming that it came with a JDM ej20 computer as well, so I'm not sure if their pre-fab ones will work. I'll have to call and ask when i get a chance. Will probably just have to grab a universal one and go from there.
