Hello to all.......91 legacy wagon 2 wd drive here......

My lt rear pads and rotor were worn down prematurely due to a dragging caliper. I replaced pads and rotor yesterday...............and piston was very hard to retract to allow new pads to fit. And smell is awful ............ caliper is still binding........

can I assume caliper is shot? They seem cheap enuf......60 ish rebuilt Could a bleed help?

If I replace caliper( Ive never done one before)..... how to remove the brake line from caliper?...........can I prevent fluid from seeping during the job?.....

The caliper is probably shot. I'd recommend replacing it. You will lose fluid when remove the brake line from the caliper.

You'll need to bleed the brakes after.

Thanks for quick reply. Do I need a special tool to remove line from caliper?.......it wasnt clear to me upon visual inspection.

Just a wrench. It's a banjo fitting. You'll need new annealed copper washers when you reassemble.

if you are in a real pinch you may be able to clean up the slides so it can move freely again.

FWIW I recently did my brakes and my rear caliper was frozen too.

side note: I just looked at what I did when I bought the car Trans kit, oil pan gasket, pads and rotors all the way around. alternator, 1 rear caliper, plugs, wires, air filter, battery, and wiper blades.
thankfully I work for a part store so I only put in a few bucks compared to retail price :p
