i have a 91 legacy wagon 5spd awd non turbo, and the second gear went on it, my buddy just fried wat we think is the center dif in a 99 legacy wagon 5spd awd 2.2 brighton edition, can i swap out the input shaft and 2nd gear from his tranny into mine to fix it or can i put my center dif in his to make his work and use his tranny in my car?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth. Things did change throughout the years. I would say you would probably have a better chance of swapping the center diffs, but I have nothing to back that up.

I would think yes. Someone like BAC5.2 would know better than me though.

I think swapping the diffs is the only way to go. I know that I have a center diff from a wrx that I welded up to make my 91 ss 5-speed RWD. It fits no problem.
