wheel shake

Does anyone have a common explanation for my steering wheel to be shaking at over 55mph? It's weird, it's totally fine until you go past around 55 and then it starts to shake worse and worse the faster I go. Is my alignment bad? Is it possible for a bad road to throw that off? Cause ours is hideous, it's complete slush. Thanks.

A bad alignment can cause that.

You may also need to have your tires/wheels rebalanced.

I also had this problem, so I went into Les Schwab and asked them to torque down my lug nuts. They did that for free and it solved the problem.

at 55 and up, i'd be inclined to think axle wear/balance might be an issue. or of course iced up wheels? i'm assuming your front end is all tight and tires have been balanced.

Hmm. Yeah they should be. I just recently had a shop (discount tire) switch out my all seasons for studded snows. Is it possible they were lazy and didn't torque my wheels down properly? I'm at work now but that'll be the next thing to check.
