Wouldn't have believed it if I didn't see it for myself.

I also wouldn't have believed how loud it was when it let go. Crazy.

Holy Cow. Did you modify your drive to spin at 30,000 rpm?

This is not that uncommon.
5 years ago or so, all Sony drives came with warning stickers on the front informing owners of the potential hazard of putting a damaged CD into a drive.

Mythbusters went over this.

I've seen the Mythbusters, but they ended up having to rig an angle grinder and overspeed it with a DC power supply to get one to shatter.
I've heard/seen all the warnings, just never actually seen or heard about it happening first hand.
World of Warcraft cards.

I saw a websight based out of MiT or somesuch. Started as an experiment to see how fast you could transfer Data from a CD to a computer. Their first step was to see how fast you could spin a CD so they rigged up a dremmel to hold one.
Once they figgured out they could explode CDs the totally forgot the rest of the experiment.
The entire rest of the websight was teenage college students Exploding CDs and shooting them across rooms and such.

same thing happened to my ex... I was in another room and I hear this god aweful sound so I ran in to see what the deal was. I'm actually surprised that there were pieces of it that large remaining, the one she busted basically desintigrated.
