my clutch isnt slipping but the guy who owned the car before me obviously thrashed it. i wanna replace it but dont know what kind of clutch to get. Will a clutch off of a N/A 5mt legacy work, or do the turbo models have a special clutch that they need?

Turbo models need turbo clutches. Clutch kits meant for the WRX will fit. Hopefully that gives you enough info to be able to find what you need to know by searching.

If you use a WRX clutch, you need to replace the flywheel with a wrx flywheel.

More then likely, the clutch disc is overhanging the machined area and making contact with an area it shouldn't. It may not be a huge area, but that would be my suspicion.

When i did mine i had picked up a WRX flywheel cause i thought the micro fractures in my OEM fly couldnt be turned out. It came with an old pressure plate and clutch. I compared them to the ACT heavy duty PP and full face clutch ordered for my car and they are both EXACTLY the same size. At most the wrx clutch is 2-3mm larger in diameter.
All parts were interchangeable between wrx and legacy parts (IE: Legacy fly with wrx clutch/PP, wrx fly with legacy PP and clutch, legacy fly with wrx PP and legacy clutch) with no visible issues. Also if you look up the ACT part #SB012 for the pressure plate ive been using for 6+ months no problems you get:

The only thing i see as a major difference between the two are the flywheels. The WRX fly is a two piece vs our one piece. It also appears when mounted to the crank, because of the two piece construction, the face would sit slightly closer to the gearbox. But i would think any of this gap difference would be made up with clutch lever adjustment.

Just my $0.02

And get the Exedy OEM clutch. Stage 0 if you must refer to it that way. Nothing more is needed... or better. I paid way too much money out my nose to learn this by experience.

If you are making some ridiculous amount of horsepower that can shred the OEM Exedy, then go straight to the twin-disc Exedy. Those two clutche choices keep everything covered.

It's interesting you mention that about the WRX flywheel. I bet that was my issue with the tranquil sleeve, and why I didn't have enough clearance

Yeah that would do it i bet! I used an OEM TOB.

On topic of the thread:
I would suggest getting an OEM full face sprung clutch. And if you can spring for it i would suggest this ACT heavy duty pressure plate. Its a nice upgrade from the OEM, good tight feel and grabs hard, but doesnt break your leg when you push it.

I swapped in an '02 WRX flywheel and clutch kit with a stage 1 disc. I cannibalized the parts from a wrecked car and there is always a few of them laying around. I think I paid $60 or $70 plus the disc and bearing.
