I replaced my trunk light lamp with a 7, stock is 5. Will this be a problem? The old 5 was hotter than heck after being on for only a few seconds, was discolored and had put a brown spot on the lens. edited a typing mistake. replaced the discolored 5 with the 7.

Thanks. But, all I want to know is if the 7 is OK to use in place of a 5. Come on you smart electrical people, what do you think?

What do 5 and 7 refer to? The wattage? A trade number?
If it's wattage, and the old 5 already seems close ot the max for the housing/lens, then I would steer clear of the 7.
If it's simply a number, then it's anybodys guess.

Smoke! Flames! Possible painful death!
Just take the plastic cover off... the wiring can handle it, that cover will melt.

The 7 is watts. It is a 194 12v 7w. I'll take the cover off. I just wanted to make sure the wires were not going to make my car a bar-b que. Thanks.
