Yeah! I have finally found one...

for some reason Subaru made a shitton of different taillights and garnishs....

Well, Europe and some Australia stuff had the rear fog lights... Japan had the red-reflectorless clear taillights, 92 USDM had amberless tails.. while the 93 and 94s had amber inserts (that could be seen from the outside...

And on the garnish side of things... The US and most of Japan had the normal bright red Legacy garnish... while Europe had a flat black garnish that said "Legacy" in the little insert area and they had an open area for a license plate. Then Australia (all non-jdm imports) had the euro garnish that said liberty...

Then there was a Japanese oddball that only one Legacy in the US has... subaru_styles (Brad)...

He got his out of a parts container from a Japanese auto wrecker.

Well, this garnish has no taillights... but looks like a super dark red USDM garnish that says "Legacy" in the middle. And it will look really good with the EDM tails that I'm looking for (once again).

OH and I do know that they came on RS-RA Spec-Ds (only spec Ds) but thats not all.

I finally found one :-D

And hopefully (assuming all goes as planned) I'll have it in a few weeks...

Without further ado...

But the stock outer taillights aren't designed to function as sufficient brake/tail lights without the lamps on the garnish...

But if I convert to EDM tails at the same time that are amplified with the rear fogs illuminating with the brake lights I ought to be okay right?

The rear fogs are hella bright because they have an extra reflector behind them...

I would surely think that would be bright enough to see... even in the worst of conditions.

You need lights from a model that had a light-less garnish. I don't know if switching to ECE taillights will do it -- did they not have quad taillights like we do? If they didn't, then you're right and you'll be fine.

Just to clarify, though, there's more to it than just brightness; as always, there's beam pattern.

And about rear fog lights: Rear fog lights are only on the driver's side of the car. And one should never use rear fog lights unless the weather has reduced visibility to near nil. They are bright enough to see in very bad weather, yes. They shine largely into the eyes of drivers behind you, much more so than other rearward-facing lights, and so create awful glare. You really should only have them on if your taillights are otherwise invisible.

Kool...

The edm lights are normally used with a light-less garnish so I ought to be aight.

The rear fogs on the sedan are on both sides. I'll see if I can dig up a pic from my old car...

I had my dad follow me and he said that teh fogs worked great for brake lights...

The innermost light on the actual tail light part...closest to the garnish... are the fog lights.

Both have the extra reflector.

And no, they are not lit up in the picture. But the pic shows where they are. Between the "taillight" and the garnish lights.

Oh, okay, cool.

There may be a rear fog light socket in each taillight, and the factory may even have put wiring in on both sides in non-North-American cars, but only one of them had a bulb in it. Other car makers have done that too, so they wouldn't have to make different taillights for LHD and RHD countries.

OH and since I now have a spare fog light switch I'll probably rewire the rears to that. So they will have their own circuit.

You have to do that! You can't just run rear fogs whenever the front fogs are on!

Huh... that is interesting... Mine had both... But it may have been added later.

Hahaha Zach I asked someone to do that, and you posted up a picture of a steak. hahahahaha.

Spencer - The picture you posted of the 'EDM' rear garnish says Liberty on it, so that would mean it's Australian correct? Or do the EDM and ADM(?) rear garnishes look the same?

by smh0101
Well... yeah... normally the Aussie ones are the same as the euro ones... only with liberty instead of legacy.
