This is just sickening....

Came across this today in one of the daily articles I get. Some people just need to be put down....Someone offered their services to help, and now those people are turning around and sueing them.

Structural engineers sued in WTC site contamination case.

In the front-page of its Metro Section, the New York Times (2/23, B1, Dwyer) reported that Ramon Gilsanz, a structural engineer with a small firm in Manhattan," who "was one of the legions of people who just showed up downtown after the Sept. 11, 2001, attack to help," is now "being sued by thousands of people." Led by "Gilsanz, a group of structural engineers talked their way past the barricades" and "became indispensable in a world that suddenly had no recognizable geometry." The lawsuits claim that people "became ill by breathing the air at the World Trade Center (WTC) site while working on the recovery." The Times noted that "The engineers turned up at the trade center site as volunteers, but after a few days, the city established formal arrangements, and they were signed up as subcontractors." Joseph Tortorella, a former president of the Structural Engineers Association, "who is also being sued," said, "We did not want to get paid for this work, but we were told we had to be paid in order to participate. ... Many of us ended up giving the money to charity."

Wow... that is just absurd...

WTF is wrong with people?

How does a structural engineer who is helping with the clean up have any responsibility and any health hazard that existed?

That makes no sense.

It's a sad sad world.....

i dont see how it is his problem if they got sick, they were volunteers, i dont think anyone at the site was really "in charge" so... i mean... i just dont get it

and what does the fact that they were paid have to do with anything? they sound defensive like they are being accused of only working for the money

I don't see how this engineer was liable for these idiots. Maybe they could sue the Fed like everyone else that was there. The guy who is talking about the getting paid is also getting sued. I think the point is that, he was forced to become a subcontractor, rather than a volunteer force, and therefore incurred liability for the dumbasses who wouldn't think an asbestos-era building, burned and collapsed, smoking and expelling dust for months, would cause respiratory problems when openly exposed to it. Army surplus places have gas masks for $20 and they can write off the cost. I've used mine (Israeli surplus) for years with a couple filter changes and it works the balls.

Why don't they sue al Queda? Oh, 'cause they'd never see the money from that.

you can't destroy an idea, but you can manipulate the people with the idea...

on a lighter note, thats why all lawyers need to be.. :?

Finish the sentence, bro... "Lined up against a wall and given a good going over with a flame thrower"

It's not the "victims" who are targeting these volunteers, it's their lawyers, who operate on the principle of "Drag anyone who was within 20 miles of the incident into court, then bully and harass them into coughing up money just to make the misery stop"

My brother-in-law is FDNY who was there... and now has chronic respiratory problems, but he's not suing anyone. The city is taking decent care of him and anyone else in the department having problems.

i wasn't sure if anybody on here was a lawyer so i decided to just hint :D

but yeah, as long as it involves a dull blade and a rocket launcher, thats fine with me.
trial lawyers in particular
those mother_______ sue for nothing and it's complete BS.
i don't even watch tv anymore b/c of all the bs adds saying "you could be eligible for money" if you just sign your name here and say that you were injured IN SOME WAY by someone for some reason..

how specific is that?
you know who needs regulation?
the fed that's who... complete bs.
making their money off of other people's losses... and at 50%.

There are two things that simply don't seem to happen anymore.

Take responsibility for your actions.

Realize that sometimes, shit happens.

I'll add a 3rd...your not automatically entitled to anything. Actually thats a big one that most people don't seem to get anymore.

It's just retarded that these engineers were helping out for the better good of the people and now they are getting screwed for it.

It's interesting, because I'm giving a little presentation on generational differences in the work place today.

One of the big issues with the younger generation today is they feel they're entitled to high paying jobs and all this stuff, and that people shouldn't talk bad about them, etc etc. Which came from over active parenting, lack of discipline, etc. These kids want to be rewarded for doing something they're supposed to be doing.

Unfortunately, this mentality is not only confined to the younger generation.....

It's an ever-increasing Western affliction. It comes from people having things too easy. That's also why it wasn't an older generational issue. Friggin' hippies!

But to yours as well? jk

We're not all bad...

To be honest, we are no worse than any other generation before us. Every older generation says the exact same thing about every younger generation.

I ask you... What did your parents and grandparents say about you?
"Oh these kids these days... Little hoodlums! They think they ought to have absolutely everything... Why when I was your age we were happy with what we got! We had to walk to school through 2 miles of snow... With bare feet!!"... blah, blah, blah

Honestly, I know I have to work my ass off for what I get. Sure, its nice to have my parents give a helping hand every once in awhile, but I dont feel entitled to it.

And I dont give a flyin fuck what anyone says about me...

I know not every "younger person" is like that, and the older generations always tend to have comments about the younger. But if you do some reading, there are definite deliniations, and differences. The Generation Y or Millenia generation have grown up a lot differently then the Gen Xer's.

I was reading yesterday that the Millenia generation were also called the echo baby boomers. The baby boomers typically grew up with stable families, dinner at 6 when dad got home, they looked up to their elders, etc etc. Had a good home environment. The millenia gen tended to grow up with a good home life, albeit a little different, more spoiling then necessary I think. Compare that to the Gen Xer's where they grew up with high divorce rates, national leaders resigning due to scandels, etc. So you have a lot different mentalities.

I know these are generalizations, and that they don't hold true to everyone, but if you take a step back and look closer at the behavior of the different generations, and even the interaction.......it becomes more apparent.

I have read a lot on the differences between the generations...

But um, okay, so Gen Xers were ignored by their parents etc.

But do you not understand the current divorce rates? Yeah um...

I'm not getting in to personal experience but very very very few kids my age i know have both parents under the same room.

Whats the current divorce rate like 60%?

You make everything sound like all is peaches and cream right now... but that is a far cry from reality.

And you think we dont see issues with the political system? Um, yeah, its been how many years since 9/11 and we're still in the middle east?

Okay, so our National leader havent resigned... But the entire country hates them. What kind of political air is that?

Americans hating their own government? Come on.

Back to families.... They get ripped apart, torn in to 5 Billion pieces because Daddy cant keep it in his pants or mommy has to go impale herself on the neighbor...

So then there is the court battles and all that bullshit that kids are dragged through.

Sorry, but i guess thats no worse than anything else.

The only difference between Gen-X and Gen-Y is the fact that we are being raised by Gen-X who was neglected, so what do they do?

The opposite of what your (Gen-Xs) parents did... We arent ignored.

The only way Millennials could be raised by Gen-X is if they were the older end of the generation and spawned in high school. And older generations were right about the younger, though it's less pronounced a difference today, I think it still rings true - people are getting progressively worse. The stupid reproduce most often, making human stupidity like entropy - increasing with time. This isn't a condemnation of any one person in particular as there are always exceptions, but stereotypes come from somewhere. I thought my generation sucked - was lazy, superficial, and spoiled, but I only see it worse now. Especially the lack of work ethic - there are way too many kids who seriously have no idea at all about how to work. They think they show up whenever and reluctantly put their time in to get their entitled paycheck and forget it if you need them to think on their own, work on their own, start a job without supervision, etc. I've even heard stories about parents calling their kids work and trying to get promotions for them or harassing managers into knowing why they didn't get one. Assinine! With all the people out of work, I'd never risk hiring someone from that generation. But what would anyone expect from kids who still think it's acceptable to be in their mid twenties or older, barely able to wipe their ass on their own, and still live at home (usually without even paying rent)?

The coddling West needs to collapse so that the weak will die off and we can start over with a better system. Wisdom, strength, and self respect comes from overcoming adversity - these parents do their kids no favors. In fact, I'd argue they'd be better off neglected. I'd take my angry, alcoholic father any day over one of those homo 'pal' dads playing catch with me and being involved in my life, living vicariously through me because he gave up on having a life of his own when he the damn kid in the first place. I stood up to my father when I was 12 and he wanted to beat the shit of me and my mother wanted to keep me away from him and call the cops. I told him, dead serious, how he could beat me up, but I would buy a gun from a friend at school (Beretta 92 with scratched off serials for $80 - hey was a kid, that seemed acceptable. Today, I'd get nothing less than a .45) and kill him in his sleep and that I was a minor and he had a criminal record so I'd walk and I'd laugh at his funeral. He never dared bother me after that and he still stays away to this day and there's never been a time when I've been frightened of another human or felt there was a situation I couldn't handle myself since. Beyond that, I've also taught myself nearly everything I know. I had to and I'm all the better for it.

Okay...

My grandpa = 1947 = Baby Boomer
My father = 1968 = Gen-X'er
Me (Spencer) = 1991 = Gen-Y
My little cousin Kendal = 2000 = Millenial

I'm in Gen-Y and am being raised by someone of Gen-X...

My cousin Kendall is a Millenial... And her mother (my aunt) was born in 1976, and she is in Gen-X

So um, yea, a Gen-Y person can be raised by someone of Gen-X and a millenial can be raised by someone of Gen-X.

Baby Boomers born between - 1946-1964
Generation X born between - 1965-1980
Generation Y born between - 1981-1995
Millenials between - 1996- 2010(?)

and it's that Fucking thought that made my savings drop, and all of our nominal wages worth MUCH less.

yeah sure, i'm in gen Y or whatever you name/classify groups by.

it's how you are raised that makes the difference.
stupid people breed, that's our problem.

and about the differences...
i was litterally just talking to my law professor, who implied that i should get a job working at McDonalds.

uh...McfuckThat

i bite my tounge and wondered WHY old people say shit they don't know about?

i've been working since i was 14, and am quite similar to what Spencer stated earlier.

ok not to be ageist but i don't SAY anything about anybody i see just from looking at them.

yeah, we're humans and we are judge mental but it seems like everyone i meet that's over like 60 HAS to talk shit to your face WITHOUT ANY REASON.

he knows nothing about me but yet he says shit, so i came back at him with my current status (which is WAY better than McDonalds by the way :x) and all he said was "well that's good"

bullshit, i swear to god.

i agree with alot of what you say, but im guessing you've never had kids
it's called being supportive.
yeah people need to learn on their own but you can't exactly tell your offspring "what are you retarded" and expect nothing to happen. you influence them, they learn from you in addition to their friends and other influences.

the next biggest problem is the education system and the media feeding the kids lies, and not telling them the TRUTH about America.

you learn what's really happening around you and you adapt.

I hate kids. Hated them when I was one (and myself for having to be one). Will never have them. They are the worst venereal disease unless that one that rots your junk off is actually real. No, even then, that one kills you fairly quick. Kids are like self-inflicted Guantanamo Bay.

Wow, just plain wow...

I've always liked kids... as long as I wasnt their same age. Although I dislike most people my age because of their blatant immaturity.

I'm taking college classes for a reason, I cant stand the fucking retards at my high school. The only ones I dont mind are the Seniors... even then!

Ya know... I cant stand it when I here some little kid saying...

"Mommy! Mommy! I want it... NO FAIR!"

That pisses me off... I'm like... I'd beat the shit outta that kid if it were me...
