'05WRX seats installed

I bought a used set of front and rear '05 WRX seats. With the drivers seat as low as it would go, my head brushed the headliner. The brackets needed to be modified to get the seats down as low as possible. I can fit and fabricate but don't weld, and was not interested in renting welding equipmnet and globbing molten metal onto cut and channeled pieces to make it happen. So I took the brackets and the car with only the WRX drivers seat temporarily installed, to a machine and fabrication shop and explained what I wanted done. They cut, fit , welded, and painted the brackets, and I installed the seats. The Legacy seatbelt male end will not fit into the WRX female end. So I cut off the Legacy female buckle and had it welded onto the WRX piece that bolts to the seat. The total length matches the Legacy length so it does not stick up so much. The WRX electrical for the seatbelt warning plugs right into the Legacy piece and works as OE. Have not started on the rear seat yet, but check fitted the bottom cushion and it seems to fit Ok. The WRX seat back does have a rear pass through in the middle, but the seat back does not fold down like the Legacy. The WRX seat back has the springs and padding exposed on the back, whereas the Legacy has the hard back and is carpeted. My amp is bolted to the passenger seat back, so I want to make a hard back for the WRX seat back to closely match the Legacy design.

Did you get it recarpeted? Or just get lucky with condition on the old girl?

Also, I don't think you need to swap out door cards either. I have the grey and pink check pattern that's not exactly neutral. I may have to swap them...

Photos of back seat?

My wife's 91 sedan has a non-folding rear seat and that hard back piece is seperate from the seat itself, and just sits in the trunk's passageway (thank the haynes manual for making me remove the entire rear seat, just to find out that the fuel pump is fully accessible without touching the seat in early sedans). If you're bolting stuff to it then it's probably better just to make one anyway (from what I remember it was kind of flimsy), but just thought I'd throw that out there......

Carpet--Original carpet. I have used Resolve spot carpet cleaner to clean up spill stains occasionally.

On the seats that fold to give access to the trunk, the hard back is a part of each seat back, and is carpeted.

I have not started the rear seat project, but am thinking about attatching 3/8" plywood covered in carpet.

Cool - looks great! those look Real good in the Legacy.
A couple Q's for you -

How tall are you?
How much clearance do you have now to the headliner?
and finally, is it as low is it could be (re-welded as low as possible)?

My drivers seat is trash (blown springs from a larger PO) so I've been looking for viable upgrades. I'm 6'2" so all of the "bolt-in" wrx seats are a no no for me. I have friends with welders, so modification isn't out of the question for me, I just want to be sure it will be low enough in the end (enough to fit a helmet would be nice too - so ~3" above the head should do)

Thanks
-Chad

how much did it cost?

I'm 6'2 and can actually fit in my car with a helmet and 02-03 wrx seats, but I need them way lower.

Slightly off topic...If you find EVO seats with recaro seat mounts they lower you half an inch from stock. I'm 6' 1" with lots of room for helmet now...

Is that a big deal lol. I'm 6 2 crazy room in the car with stock seats, are wrx seats that much higher because I was thinking about buying some wrx seats from a 06.

The 02-03 seats are lower than 04+ seats. with 02-03 seats it's barely tolerable.

Has anyone tried putting in the JDM WRX seats (tiger stripe ones)?

2 of my friends have those in their GC's and they have got to be the best factory seats ever! They hold you so well. Lol.

These seats are '05 WRX so that is all I know to comment on. I am 6' tall and have about 2 1/2" clearance now. The modified brackets are as low as the fabricator could get them. There is a cross brace on the floorpan under the front part of the seat that the brackets basically sit on now. That is as low as you can go in the front, then get the rear feet lowered as much.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like I could have 1-2" with a similar setup, and more with 02-03 seats... could be feasible.

The Recaros would be sick, but I think they are well above the price of used wrx buckets... I think.

Also, some people who have lots of headroom may not have a sunroof, it takes up probably 1.5" of height. Stupid sunroof -it's a love-hate relationship haha

Again - they look great in there.

Here are some seat rails that can get the WRX/STi seats lower in the Legacy.

I just put some seat covers on these '05 WRX seats. They are from www.wetokole.com Made out of neoprene, wet suit material. They are custom cut for a particular seat, not universal fit.

Very nice looking John!

I may have to look into something like that for my WRX seats.

Hi John. What are your impressions from driving with those seat covers after having them on a bit? I found myself sliding a little on my pull-a-part seat cover from the same material. Perhaps the difference was that I had crappy seats with minimal support at the time. Like how they look in your car, though.

No sliding at all. Don't even feel that it will be an issue with these.

After removing the WRX buckles, the Legacy buckles will bolt on. The slider has to be unbolted temporarily for clearance. There is no welding required for seat belt fitment with this type of seat.
