For the Engine Management guys

All stand alone systems I've seen are for common engine configurations. I've never actually worked with a system, but can they be programmed to run any number of cylinders? Barring that, could I take EM meant for an 8 cylinder and just set one of the cylinders to 0 values? I'm wondering how I would be able to control fuel injection for a 7-cylinder radial engine and this is my first question. A custom crank gear would also have to be made, but I'm first just curious as to if this could be done off the shelf instead of going through some expensive company (this would not be for an aircraft installation, so would not have to be certified). JRLCycles has modified Rotec 7-cylinders for their motorcycles (and somehow got it to cool properly even with an improper transverse mounting) and it got me wondering about installation into one of my designs. I think I've come up with a clever anti-roll solution to counter the effects of the radial.

My link can run any number of cylinders up to twelve. You set the firing order and can decide of what type of triggering system you want to use. If you make custom triggers, you'd have to have them decode it. hmmmmm

Cool. Thanks, that's the kind of thing I was looking for. I could probably adapt something as far as triggering, but I didn't know if you could program uncommon configurations. Using a carb is a much simpler and cheaper solution, but I want to know what all my potential options could be.

I think you can possibly use a common trigger method like a Ford or chevy, and set your own parameters, but you'd have to talk to the experts. If you check out their forums at www.linkecu.com. you should be able to get some more definitive answers.

Yeah the link would probably be able to do what you want. Like Dan said, you'd just have to setup the triggers.

Just thinking out loud for now. I'm having a hard enough time trying to get this Cessna-car going, never mind a scratch-built 3-wheeler with a $20k radial engine in front, but I hate the inefficiencies of carbs. Yeah, I know, and yet I'm talking about a 2.8L, 160HP radial engine. They're just so unbeatably cool, though.

I bet Megasquirt could do it...
