JDM engine fuel requirements

I have a JDM EJ20 NA motor and I was wondering if it was designed to be used with the Japanese 100 octane fuel. I know some of the other high performance engines were made for the 100 octane fuel, but does this apply to all their models? If so, should I be running premium fuel to get the most out of my engine? Thanks

It is probably originally run with 93-95 octane.
Since it is NA, you will not have the issues that boosted motors have.
I would start out with the 87 and listen for knock.
If it knocks, move up to a higher grade.

I'm running megasquirt on it right now. I have the fuel pretty much where I want it. I have yet to get the spark tuned all the way. Right now I'm just running a rough spark table from a Link ECM that I retarded a little all over. When I get some money, I'm going to go to the dyno and get my spark tuned. What kind of gains could I see in HP by having the dyno tune for a higher grade octane compared to 87? Thanks.
